The Rumpus Room II

The Rumpus Room is our online restaurant and bar, where all are welcome to this PFZ (Politics-Free Zone.) We may have our differences out there, but in here. . . we're all friendly. We remember our late host, Susan Scruby, who saw to it that our every food and drink needs were met, and pledge to continue in that tradition.

The bartender is Ramundo (an undergraduate student at Western Washington University and a great listener!). Ramundo is supervised by Raoul Dangerfield, that international man of mystery who knows how a bar should be run. We have also acquired the services of Tanya who brings us what we order any time of the day or night. We've brought the Bust o' Babs with us during every move, and it is safely parked on the back bar counter. We've completely restored the Bob Dornan Whine Cellar and for you cigar aficionados, we've added the Wayne Hayes Memorial Humidor for the storage of your favorite stogies. The Osama bin Laden shooting gallery is always lively. There is a new pool out back, with a patio full of deck chairs around it. Please do not refer to the diving platform as a waterboard, as it tends to make Dick Cheney appear and give a long speech.

You also might enjoy a stroll in the garden out back where the backyard smoker is always available to cure your favorite meats, fish, and poultry. Sit a spell, eat, drink and be merry. The kitchen is open 24/7, or bring something for a potluck surprise.

There is a great espresso machine for those who are interested...

Welcome all....

But be warned -- in here, the inmates are clearly in control!

The first Rumpus Room has filled to capacity, so we're moving to a new one.

And good morning, all. We have 52F with light rain, expecting to top out at 61F with showers continuing.

I need to do some running around today (get dog food, pick up prescription refill) so I'll be in and out.

Meanwhile, Tanya, some coffee would be nice.

It's always nice to welcome a new Rumpus Room! I think I will have a Mimosa to christen the place.

Going back to the mid-'90's, Belle - there have been dozens of them.

Yup. HERE'S a look at one incarnation from about 9 years ago.

There's a text-only version from 2001 HERE. It was the very last one at the Time Pathfinder site, which was where all of us met way back when.

Thanks, Peter! Y'all were so funny back then. Take this remark, from Raoul:

Peter and glherter, it's great to have you both back, with your resplendent wit. Robbie is still the master at running a house of ill repute, isn't she? So many birds seem to be flying back to her roost and singing away, sort of like the swallows returning to Capistrano, or maybe more like the buzzards returning to Hinckley, Ohio.

"Resplendent wit" is a good way to describe the four pages I've read so far of the 500-page archive you sent me.

Hi, everyone! RR sure looks spiffy in its new incarnation!

Back feels better today but it still aches.

Thanks for the new place, Robbie! I got to the end of the last thread, and it told me I was out of space, so I tried to scoot over a little bit to make more room, but no.... emoticon

Wow, Streamline.... And Susan everywhere.... Man, I miss her.

Cooter, your prime rib dinner sounds wonderful.

Birdz, I'm glad you're feeling some relief, but hope your back is back to normal soon.

I have been such a good girl today. Went to two meetings and ran errands all over town. More than five hours later, I'm back home. The good news is that it's just beautiful out there. Bright sunshine and 65. Of course, that all goes away tomorrow when we go back to rain again.

So I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel for the last section of this project. I'm correlating the textbook's approximately 1400 online test questions to the more than 300 standards created by the College Board. I've gone through each of the questions and tried to identify all of the standards that each question meets. But I KNOW I've missed a bunch. So now I'm going through to identify which of the standards have no questions and which of the questions have no standards, to see if I can fit them in anywhere. And then I'm going to rearrange the standards into a new order so that topics are together, and then go through each of the questions with each set of standards (opposite the first process) to see if I can gain some consistency and make sure everything is categorized correctly. This last section is taking SO much longer than it took to identify the College Board standards in the textbook and the teacher's manual! But boy, I would have LOVED to have had these correlations when I was a teacher! I hope it will help them.

LOL, definitely not! This last section of this project is just so completely difficult. I've never had to do anything this complicated.

Look at a multiple-choice question. And then figure out which (and how many) of the 300+ standards that question tests.

And then there are the essays that may have up to ten parts. Try to identify all of the different standards that are within that question. Grrrrr.... It's just overwhelming.

Yes, she is. Don't believe her poor-mouth denials.

I was a good girl today, too. I went one direction and loaded up on dog food, then went the other direction and hit WinCo, then the mall.

Poor mall. You could shoot a canon down a hallway and not hit anyone. Parking is a breeze, which is nice.

I wonder how long we'll have a mall.

Wow, you got a lot done, Robbie!

We have two malls.

One is still very busy, though they tore down the Sears when it closed and replaced it with several stores/restaurants that all have outdoor entrances.

The other one is as dead as you described. I can't imagine how it stays open, as one tenant after another comes and goes.

Where are people buying things? Are they all getting things from Amazon, the way I do?

Good morning, all. Good heavens, it's half-past May already. We have 48F with lots of white clouds against a blue sky, heading for 66F and rain likely tonight.

I don't buy all that many "things," and when I do I try to shop at local bricks-and-mortar stores that employ local people. But I'm old.

Coffee, please, Tanya.

I'm old too, which is the reason I shop online. I do drive, but shopping trips take it out of me. Lopping briars is less strenuous on my brain.

Talking of which, it's nice out this morning, so I may do some of that unless my yard people come. When they do come (today or tomorrow), they'll take away the briar piles, so that I will have room to make more of them. I'm gradually working my way around that tree, which is entwined with decades of neglected briars. And I mean they're climbing way up in there. I have to cut them at the root and drag them down, through limbs and twigs they don't want to let go of.
