Fox News pulled off the air in Britain

by Charles Riley and Dylan Byers August 29, 2017: 11:59 AM ET

Rupert Murdoch and his sons are pulling Fox News off the air in Britain.

The network's parent company, 21st Century Fox, has announced that the controversial news channel will no longer be broadcast in the U.K. after failing to attract an audience. The network has also become a lightning rod for critics seeking to spoil the Murdochs' planned $15 billion takeover of Sky, the top pay TV provider in the U.K.

"Fox News is focused on the U.S. market and designed for a U.S. audience and, accordingly, it averages only a few thousand viewers across the day in the U.K.," 21st Century Fox said in a statement.

"We have concluded that it is not in our commercial interest to continue providing Fox News in the U.K.," it added.

21st Century Fox said the network's final broadcast in the U.K. would be Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. local time.

The decision to jettison the network in Britain could help insulate 21st Century Fox from criticism as it seeks to win approval for its takeover of Sky.

The British government ruled in June that 21st Century Fox should not be allowed to purchase Sky without further investigation, a decision that set the merger up for many additional months of delays.

U.K. culture secretary Karen Bradley said the transaction could give the Murdoch family too much influence over British media.

The Murdochs already control three British newspapers -- The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times.

The additional review would be conducted by Britain's Competition and Markets Authority.

This is the Murdochs' second attempt to buy Sky. A previous bid collapsed in 2012 in the wake of a phone-hacking scandal at his British newspapers. Fox would have to pay Sky £200 million as a break fee if the deal falls apart.

Sky has 22 million customers in five European markets: Italy, Germany, Austria, the U.K. and Ireland.

I have watched Sky in the UK, Germany and Austria. It's nearly as sensationalistic as Fox.

Eric Bolling Out At Fox News

The news comes a month after HuffPost reported the host sent unsolicited lewd texts to female colleagues.

By Yashar Ali | 09/08/2017 04:29 pm ET Updated 29 minutes ago

Fox News has parted ways with host Eric Bolling, the network confirmed Friday, just over a month after an exclusive HuffPost report revealed Bolling sent inappropriate text messages to current and former female colleagues.

News of the departure comes after two HuffPost reports revealed a pattern of inappropriate behavior by Bolling, who co-hosts “Fox News Specialists.” Fox News will cancel the program, it said in a statement.

“Eric Bolling and Fox have agreed to part ways amicably,” the network said. “We thank Eric for his ten years of service to our loyal viewers and wish him the best of luck.”

HuffPost’s report, which was based on 14 sources, revealed that at least three current and former Fox colleagues said they had received inappropriate text messages from Bolling, including photos of male genitalia.

Less than a week after the two stories were published, Bolling filed notice that he was suing this reporter for defamation, claiming damages of $50 million.

Thanks, Lis. That was incredible.

These two articulate women, who are being polite in their controversy. Not one touch of snarkiness, but thrust and parry all the same. One was talking sense, and the other was talking nonsense, and it was an exceedingly civil discussion.

Just watched Sarah Huckabee Sanders' press conference today, wondering if Daddy ever taught her about the "bear false witness" commandment. I'd love to send an email to let her know "God's gonna gitcha."

*shaking head*

And then this....

Apparently Trump is whining about the demise of the Fairness Doctrine, because it would force the "liberal media" to give his side of the issues, too. So one of the reporters today asked Sarah if Trump was serious about bringing back the Fairness Doctrine.

And Sarah said....

"Well, I think we all want the media to be fair" and went to the next question.

You're kidding me. A press secretary doesn't know what the Fairness Doctrine is??? I'll give her the fact that she was only 5 when it was ended in the Reagan Administration. But, um, she didn't LEARN about that in Ouachita Baptist University??? (With a student population only 3/4 of the size of the high school where I taught.)

It's just like watching a complete train wreck. Can't tear my eyes from it.

But...the journalists are FINALLY getting bolder and trying to pin her to the wall with facts. She doesn't even really try to answer them any more. She just keeps spouting what she has been told to say. I'm amazed how many people are willing to destroy their reputations to defend an indefensible ass....

I don’t watch her or Trump. I can barely stand to watch or listen to snippets of their speeches after the fact. As far as Huckabee’s bare faced lying from the podium to the media and therefore to the American people, should be a prosecutable offense.

That's the thing with me, and I have raised the issue before. Why do people hitch their wagon to known liars and charlatans, and hang their asses out in the wind for them? They have to know. Only thing I can figure out is its the attraction of power. But, you just can't fix stupid!

That's a good point, Cooter. No matter what happens with the Trump campaign's Russia connection and other bits of squirreliness, Sarah Huckabee Sanders is putting her reputation on the line forever.

'"I want to quit": Fox News employees say their network's Russia coverage was 'an embarrassment'

Some employees at Fox News were left embarrassed and humiliated by their network's coverage of the latest revelations in special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian election meddling, according to conversations CNN had with several individuals placed throughout the network.

"I'm watching now and screaming," one Fox News personality said in a text message to CNN as the person watched their network's coverage. "I want to quit."

"It is another blow to journalists at Fox who come in every day wanting to cover the news in a fair and objective way," one senior Fox News employee told CNN of their outlet's coverage, adding that there were "many eye rolls" in the newsroom over how the news was covered.

The person said, "Fox feels like an extension of the Trump White House...."

Fox News aired segments that questioned Mueller's credibility and many were framed around how Trump and his allies were responding to the news. On Fox News' homepage, the lead story at one point was focused on Trump slamming the indictment. Another lead story cited Manafort's lawyer, and asked, "Mueller's 'ridiculous' claims?"

"This kind of coverage does the viewer a huge disservice and further divides the country," one Fox News personality told CNN.

Fox News journalists took significant issue with their network's opinion hosts, who deflected from the news and, in Sean Hannity's case, characterized Mueller's investigation as a "witch hunt," a term Trump used on Sunday in a angry tweet to describe the probe.

"That segment on Outnumbered [questioning Mueller's integrity] was absurd and deserves all the scorn it can get," a Fox News employee told CNN, referring to the network's noontime talk show.

The person added that it was "laughable seeing Hannity and [Laura] Ingraham," two Fox News opinion hosts who are openly supportive of Trump, "tripping over themselves saying [Mueller's team has] found nothing thus far."

"It's an embarrassment," another Fox News employee echoed to CNN. "Frankly, there are shows on our network that are backing the President at all costs, and it's that short term strategy that undermines the good work being done by others."

A real and even semi-honest person would be embarrassed to put out the garbage that Hannity does, but he's so proud of himself and laughs all the way to the bank.

I refuse to even look at that asshole.
