Re: Sports Scoreboard I see a whole slew of Div. I college games both on TV and in person every year. There is nothing wrong with a pitch clock when nobody is on base. If there is a base runner, it's not used. The SEC has gone to a central location for replays. It has already cut down on the length of time it takes, as far as I can see. They've also shortened the time between half innings. I like it. It moves things along and you have time to get a fresh burger or something from our grill, make another drink, or pop another cold one.
This year I've quit taking alcohol to the games for dietary reasons. Since I had DD for a designated driver I could drink whatever I felt like so long as I [sign in to see URL]. I don't remember how to do that anyway.
I see your point, Brick, but I predict it will now take four hours to play a football game.
I do agree that the games are too long, but I’m not sure how much time it will actually add to the game. The other alternative could be simply to accept human error as part of the game and then do away with instant replay altogether as Peter says. But I think that ship has already sailed. I’ll be interested to see how it impacts the game.
Re: Sports Scoreboard Our University of Colorado football games often run close to 4 hours already when they are televised, Robbie. That's primarily due to the volume of advertisements for Pac-12 games. It didn't happen as often when we were part of the Big-12, and it rarely happened when CU was just part of the Big-8 before it was invaded by four teams from Texas.
I don't mind the length of the games when they're played at home on a nice day, but I really object to them going on so long when it's a cold, blistery night and the game doesn't start until 8 p.m.
I may have to shift my loyalty to basketball games instead of football. The b-ball game we attended last Monday went only two hours.
Re: Sports Scoreboard Our girls softball team had gone into extra innings in both games with Florida so far. Last night we lost in 15 innings. We won today 8-4 on a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the eighth.
Re: Sports Scoreboard (]CNN) - Cuban baseball group criticizes Trump move to cancel player deal
The Trump administration on Monday canceled a deal that made it easier for Cuban baseball players to compete professionally in the United States -- a decision that swiftly drew criticism from the Cuban Baseball Federation.
The move rolls back another Obama-era effort aimed at warming relations between the two countries.
The deal, reached in December, would have allowed Cuban citizens to play Major League Baseball without being forced to defect from the communist-run island and risk being banned from returning to the island. It also allowed the Cuban government to claim a fee from MLB teams that drafted Cuban players.
"The agreement with MLB seeks to stop the trafficking of human beings, encourage cooperation and raise the level of baseball. Attacks with political motivation against the agreement achieved harm (to) the athletes, their families and the fans," the state-run Cuban Baseball Federation said in a statement to CNN.
