Thanks so much for finding this, Birdz. I just shook my head at Trump's lie about the haters "marching quietly" the night before. Apparently he didn't hear the shouting from them that I (and everyone else) did. And the intimidation factor frightens a whole lot of people.

I echo Lis's appreciation of you for finding this. I hope that word gets spread around.

I got the link on Facebook from a HS friend who lives in the Charlottsville area and hates trump as much as I do. She stayed away from the protests, but knows what's going on in the city.

I feel so bad for her and for all of the people of Charlottesville, whose city was taken over by these awful people....

As I've seen a few commentators say, this argument over a historical Confederate statue was over the moment the swastikas appeared.

I think we may need a separate thread for the exit parade

quote:

Billionaire investor Carl Icahn said Friday he has stepped down as a special adviser to President Trump on regulatory reform.

Icahn has been criticized by Democrats who said his advisory role created a conflict of interest because he had not taken a formal government job and was still running his businesses.

He said in a letter to Trump that he was stepping aside with the president's "blessing" and "because I did not want partisan bickering about my role to in any way cloud your administration."
In March, Icahn told CNNMoney that the conflict allegations were "absurd" and "completely ridiculous." He added, "I don't talk to Donald that often."

Does Trump have ANY friends left? Besides his family?

As much as I'm enjoying the inevitable collapse of this administration, I worry about King Cheeto being so increasingly isolated. Maybe it will hasten his departure, but if it doesn't then I worry about how much worse he can get without anyone checking him.

I read a long opinion piece today by a Facebook poster whose tantalizing theory is that the reason Pence had to come home early from his South American trip to join Trump's top dogs at Camp David is either that Trump is going to resign or they're going to invoke the 25th Amendment and sideline him.

I think the poster leads a rich fantasy life, but I enjoyed her fantasy.

Senate Republicans getting fed up with Trump

quote:

President Trump’s relationship with Senate Republicans is deteriorating by the day.

Senate Republicans are getting fed up with what they see as Trump’s lack of discipline and chaotic leadership style. Several are criticizing him more openly than ever before.

The sharpest critique came from Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), who told constituents in Chattanooga that Trump “has not yet been able to demonstrate the stability, nor some of the competence, that he needs to demonstrate in order for him to be successful.”

GOP strategists say Corker was likely unhappy with Trump’s improvised line a week and a half ago about how threats from North Korea “will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen.”

Trump’s comment was one of the latest examples of an unscripted moment undermining his administration’s or his party’s more carefully crafted strategy.
“I suspect the fire and fury business got Corker’s attention because that came out of nowhere,” said Rich Galen, a Republican strategist, who called Corker “a truly decent man” who has “just had enough.”

Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) on Friday criticized Trump for not unequivocally condemning the white supremacists who clashed with liberal protesters in Charlottesville, Va., last weekend.

“Any time he steps up and tries to equate two groups or two conversations, I think that muddies the water,” Lankford said of Trump. “I just think you need to be very, very clear with the statements and how they’re made.”

Meanwhile, senators have rallied behind Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), one of Trump’s most outspoken critics, after the president tweeted Thursday morning that he was glad to see that conservative candidate Kelli Ward is running against him in the GOP primary. Trump called Flake “toxic.”

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) fired back.

“Jeff Flake is an excellent Senator and a tireless advocate for Arizona and our nation. He has my full support,” McConnell tweeted through his campaign account.

It was a clear admonishment of the president, coming a week after Trump torched the Senate leader on Twitter for not passing ObamaCare repeal legislation in July.

Evangelical students returning university diplomas to protest Trump

This is getting good.

quote:

Former students at Liberty University are preparing to return their diplomas in a group protest of university president Jerry Falwell Jr.'s support for President Trump's agenda.

In a group letter first reported by NPR, a small group of alumni is criticizing Falwell for supporting the president in the wake of Trump's remarks blaming "many sides" for violence at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va., last weekend. The letter slams Falwell for defending Trump's comments, specifically for his saying there were "very fine people" protesting on both sides.

"This is incompatible with Liberty University's stated values, and incompatible with a Christian witness," the letter says.

One former student government president told NPR that Falwell was "complicit" in Trump's support for "Nazis and white supremacists."

"I'm sending my diploma back because the president of the United States is defending Nazis and white supremacists," Chris Gaumer said. "And in defending the president's comments, Jerry Falwell Jr. is making himself and, it seems to me, the university he represents, complicit."

Falwell responded to the letter and Gaumer's remarks on ABC's "This Week," saying that the alumni "completely misunderstand" his support for Trump.

Source.

This is no surprise. The immoral President is hardly a Christian. I've been very uncomplimentary to Liberty University and some of it's students in the past, but I have to give credit where credit is due here.

I "completely misunderstand" Falwell's support of Trump too, in that I don't understand how anyone could, can or will in the future support this clown. He makes Dubya look like FDR.

A group of Liberty University students denounced Falwell for his support of Trump and denounced Trump as well during the campaign after the release of the Access Hollywood tapes. Apparently they could not reconcile support for an amoral slug with their Christian beliefs. It's good to see that consistency from a group of students. It would serve the cowardly Republicans, who claim to be Christians, to take a page out of these kids' book, and be true to their professed beliefs. I'm not holding my breath. But I am encouraged to see the students' integrity and intellectual honesty on display and their willingness to speak truth to power.

It's not a new malfunction. I tried to explain this the first night I was here. I don't know if something needs to be turned on, or what. But it truly is annoying.

Whatsupchuk! *waving*

From what I'm reading, a lot of the people who are left are quietly saying that they're only staying to try to prevent Trump from doing anything worse....

Yeah.... Except that Pence is just a different, even scarier nightmare, because he knows how to do it all behind the scenes....

I wouldn't be at all surprised if this address really IS about Afghanistan. He insisted he would have "all the best generals" -- as if he gets to select his own generals -- and that he'd end the war in Afghanistan "quickly." Except he can't. I am hearing rumblings about him putting together a paid army that will be somehow more incentivized by the money than our own soldiers. What could possibly go wrong?
