Nice -- and frightening -- compilation of steps to turn our country over to control by another. And so scary to consider how many people are complicit or just don't care.

Was thinking about this great talk from The Last Hurrah.

]SPENCER TRACY EXPLAINS IT ALL TO YOU

The one-minute section from the 1:40 mark to the 2:40 mark of this clip addresses the whole disease of political junkydom that all of us here appear to suffer from.

Re: Musings

It's been a strange day and evening. All day I've been glued to the Ralph Northam news, and haven't been happy with Saturday's revelations. I really think he needs to step down. He can't govern, now.

Then tonight I watched a documentary called "Three Identical Strangers" on CNN, about three men who were triplets but adopted out to three different families and didn't discover each other until they were 19 years old. The first hour is fun; the second hour is horribly depressing.

When that was over I watched "Elizabeth I" on CNN. Years ago I watched Vanessa Redgrave as Elizabeth I and it was wonderful! The Elizabethian era, after all, with art flourishing and prosperity blooming! Well, not this version. Elizabeth, in this telling, spent her entire reign in danger and the enemy was always at the gate.

I'm bummed. I'm going to pour a glass of wine, then go to bed.

Go Saints! Oh... wait...

It's time we broke the addiction! We'll call our group ESA. And during our meetings, we'll use sign language.

Well, I've tried several things to figure out what ESA stands for, but so far no luck.

I find myself nearly speechless these days when it comes to political commentary. The reason is that it has all been said before. How many ways can one say what a disgrace Donald Trump and his minions are and how spineless the overwhelming majority of Republican legislators are?

I think we're dumbfounded in the face of Trump because we have never before needed to point out what our culture has till now recognized as indecency.

True and true.... I often find myself with my jaw dropped. "How can you SAY that?" "How can you not KNOW that?" "Are you TRYING to get us attacked?" "Do you have no decency/shame whastover?" And the answers are abundantly clear. It's exhausting. But that's what he's counting on, so we just keep plodding forward. The good news is that this term is more than halfway through.

Me too. It's not only Trump, but it's also his supporters and members of the GOP who are solidly behind him no matter what.

I think that when the Framers contemplated remedies for an out of control Executive they believed that those representatives charged with the protection of the Republic would be rational. I don’t think that they could have foreseen the willingness of those representatives to suspend rational thinking in order to maintain power. I wonder what they (the Framers) would be thinking now.

We should write some dialogue for the Framers. Imagine what they would say. They will talk about how they should have written the Constitution to make the constraints on executive power clearer.

Have you all seen "1776"? Meredith Willson's musical about the writing of the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson and Adams get into an argument about whether the word should be "inalienable" or "unalienable."

I suspect they're all SPINNING in their graves, screaming, "What the f***???"

Stop and think about it for a minute. Look at the founding fathers of the United States —- George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, and the forgotten founding father, George Mason. And now they have evolved into Donald Trump, Mike Pence, and the remainder of the gang that cant shoot straight.

And then we look at the Republican Party that was once the party of Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Robert M Lafollette, Arthur H. Vandenberg, Dwight Eisenhower, Everett McKinley Dirksen and Gerald R Ford, all of who must be spinning in their graves at the thought of what has become of their party.
