Yesterday I discovered Tapatalk, and it made me nostalgic.

My early years on cyberspace boards were a daily dose of the extreme unreason and malice the human mind is capable of. And I grew up in East Texas.

Anyhow, yesterday I saw some of the ogres from the early days, still posting. I was heartened to see some valiant souls upholding reason and dignity against all that inhumanity.

I really hope I won't get into it with them. Do you suppose I can successfully fight my addiction to straightening people out when I lose the fight with my addiction to reading what they say?

Pray for me.

Belle, there are a couple [sign in to see URL] on tapatalk and at least two on Aimoo that go all the way back to the old MSN days. And you are correct. In many cases they represent the extreme elements of both the conservative and liberal movements in America. Although as a couple of us with European roots have emphasized, the extremes are even more pronounced in Europe than in America. What is unique about the American boards is the total lack of civility on some of the political, boards. That is one of the reasons why i am comfortable on this board. The overal tone of civilty is so refreshing. Granted, my politics are far more centrist than most of the other members. At least with regard to fiscal issues, economics, 8ncluding international trade. But i believe we are all in agreement on civil rights and equality of opportunity for all. And with regard to the environment and energy policy, i,might actually be the most militantly librral individual on the board. But at least we will all listen to reasoned dialogue. We may not act on it. But we will listen. And if politics becomes too heated, i can always join the conversation about the weather here on the prairie, or the status of each other’s health. And politically we can always share our mutual disdain of Donald Trump and his band of thieves. ;-)

Re: Musings

Found on Facebook and all too true:

YOU KNOW YOU ARE FROM WASHINGTON STATE WHEN:
•You know how to pronounce Sequim, Puyallup, Sammamish, Enumclaw and Issaquah.
•You avoid driving through Seattle at all costs.
•You consider swimming an indoor sport.
•You see a person carrying an umbrella and instantly think "tourist".
•Your lawn is mostly moss and you don't really care.
•You're extremely picky about your coffee.
•"The mountain is out today." isn't a strange statement.
•While out of state you just tell people you're from Seattle, since that's the only known city in Washington according to the rest of the world.
•Going to the Space Needle DOES get old.
•You rarely wash your car because it's just going to get washed by the rain tomorrow.
•You're used to the phrase "No, not DC." when telling out-of-state'ers where you're from.
•Northfaces are always in fashion.
•You take a heavy coat and a hat with you for a day at the beach.
•You have mastered the art of doing everything in the rain, because, well, Washington.
•You play the "No, you go!" game at four-way stops.
•You are the only one in the entire state who actually knows how to drive in the rain.
•You have had the thought of how beautiful Mount Rainier is, while simultaneously accepting that it will probably kill you someday.
•You believe 'Twilight' ruined Forks.
•You know the story of Mt. Saint Helens all too well.
•You use Tacoma Narrows bridge as a distance marker.
•You’re used to going from shorts and t-shirts to jeans and hoodies - and back - in a single week.
•You are used to having rain on one hill and sun on another.
•You dread I-5 construction as much as you dread driving in Seattle.

Does anyone from out of state ever argue with you about how Sequim is pronounced, Robbie? My sister didn't believe me.

These are all good observations except the one about the Space Needle. I haven't been in the Space Needle enough times to get tired of it.

I can't say anyone from out of state has ever argued with me about how to pronounce Sequim (or any other location), but I have had people express perplexed amazement.

With respect to the Space Needle, you don't live in Seattle. That's where I lived most of my life, and I couldn't estimate how many out-of-town visitors I've taken up there.

This is wild speculation because I don't have enough information to be on solid ground here. So I'm thinking out loud...

How is it that we've recently become aware of Trump's affairs with adult film actress Stormy Daniels and former Playmate Karen McDougal? Who leaked this information?

I keep wondering if this is some kind of warning shot across the bow, fired by Putin's minions. "We can make this public, and you know what else we can make public, so shut this stuff down."

Or something like that.

Robbie, when a person is a highmprofile celebrity l8e Donald Trump, it is virtually impossible to remain secretive forever about any aspect of your personal life. Most particularly any type of an extra-marital affair with a porn star and a Platboy centerfold. I know that we have had philandering Presidents since george Washington and Thomas Jefferson. It has only been with the development of 21st century communications technology that those affairs have been brought into our living rooms. And sadly, the days GeorgebWashington’s life long love of the aristocratic sally Fairfax has degenerated down into, the gutter with the Donald Trump trysts with strippers, porn actresses, and Playboy centerfolds. As bizarre as this sounds, in my estimation Stormy Daniels does not hurt Trump’s image. It is simply impossible for Donald Trump to sink any lower. He has reached bottom some time ago.

I agree, Hawk. Who cares if he had an affair with a Playmate, if they don't care about his other affairs?

Probably a good number of Trump supporters are drooling with jealousy, wishing THEY could be -- or be with -- Stormy Daniels.

Or, quite possibly, they're just drooling.

Re: Musings

I think I'm pretty heterosexual. I've never been attracted to women sexually, although I can understand why many women are attractive. It's just that I'm not interested in doing anything about it. But sometimes a woman is enough of a draw that I'd like to know her closely, although that's still not sexual. I just feel warm about her.

Friday night I met one of those women. My son entered an art show's photography contest, and had two of his pictures chosen in a total of about two dozen by all kinds of photographers that had been selected. Dave, Lynne, and I did our usual Friday night dinner, then went to the art show. One of Dave's pictures had already sold (the show will last all month) and the other was getting lots of attention. People were milling about. Some seemed to be gawkers, some were other winning photographers, and some were associated with putting on the display.

A woman, 30something, probably, about six feet tall, turned out to be associated with the show. She was a light-skinned black woman with a smile that could light up a room. She wasn't a raving beauty, but she was very attractive. Much of that, I think, was how she conducted herself and seemed happy to meet everyone there. We chatted a bit. When I asked her how she was associated with the show, she said her partner was one of the owners of the studio in which the photographs were displayed. I have no idea who the owners are.

And what do we make of that, these days? Her partner? I immediately assumed that means a woman, although I have no basis to assume that or anything else. She never seemed more attached to any of the people there than to any of the other people there.

I don't know what about her drew me to her. Not wanting to be a creepy stalker, I left her alone. But, for reasons I don't really understand, I'd love to go out for a cup of coffee with her.

I know what you mean, Robbie. I have a number of women friends with whom I am so close that I feel as if we're sisters. But there is one woman friend who has always been mysterious to me. She's dear to me in a different way. I'm not sexually attracted to her (men are my poison too), but I want to write down everything she says.
