Re: Introduce yourself

Tombstone, thank you so much for such a wonderfully informative introduction! It's a pleasure to know you better and to have you join us.

We're not vitriolic against each other, but you're most welcome to call odious members of the GOP anything you want. We'll all probably agree.

What a wonderful salute to Tombstone, AZ, and I'm fascinated by your love of the place. As a born and bred (should that be the other way around?) Northwesterner, I can't take that kind of heat.

I'm sorry you've been forced into medical retirement if you had wanted to continue working. I'm retired because I'm old.

Drop into the Rumpus Room any time you're thirsty. The first one's on the house.

Welcome, Tombstone! Ms. Robbie is the Forum owner and Administrator and I don't have enough words to describe what a special person she is.

The first drink is always free in The Rumpus Room where politics are prohibited. Tanya is our morning person and server, and Ramundo runs the bar and keeps track of our tabs.

My memory is too bad to recite the rather long history of this place, so I will leave it up to some of the other "things" here to fill in the gamps.

Hi Tombstone. It is nice to have a new member. Feel free to offer your opinions, agreeable or contrarian. This is a civilized place. I don't suppose you're a Patriots fan...

Hello again fine people!

Thank you all for the well wishes, and making me feel welcome here.

In an attempt to tell a little more about me, I am originally from back east, having been whelped and growing up in southeast Pennsylvania. Hence I've been an Eagles fan for more than half a century. I have been through plenty of 4-12 seasons to keep myself humble. Actually, most of my favorite teams are NFC teams rather than AFC teams, but there are a few of them I like. Being an Eagles fan, it is naturally in my blood to dislike division rival Dallas more than any other team. After that, comes the Raiders. The only time I root for the Raiders is when they play Dallas, whom I always root against.

I lived in Florida Miami/Fort Lauderdale for many years and was there when the Florida Marlins were born, so I became a fan of them too. (Besides being a Phillies fan which were usually in the cellar). A few years after I moved to Arizona, the Diamondbacks were born and I became a fan of them too. I cut my baseball teeth on the San Diego Padres, as I was living in that town for years as well. I worked nights, so I went to Padres games every Thursday afternoon as they always ran a $2 "businessman's special" matinee every home game week. $2 at the gate. $2 hot dogs. $2 beers. For about $10, it always made a great afternoon. I like NL ball over AL ball as there is a greater strategy needed. There are 9 players to play 9 positions, opposed to AL ball which uses 10 players for 9 positions, not requiring near as much strategy. AL pitchers never need to swing a bat, where as in the NL, a pitcher needs to be able to pitch AND hit.

But I digress. I love it here in Arizona, even though I have salt water in my veins and this is the longest I've lived away from any ocean. I went through Hurricane Andrew which was quite an experience. I was lucky. The only thing I suffered was a broken taillight on my car, and lost my job. About 70% of our client base got blown away and we never recovered. When I went to visit my first client after the storm, I showed up and found nothing but a concrete slab where that business used to be. Things weren't that much better for other clients either. That storm was quite a surreal experience! The strangest thing was the dead quiet it was after the storm. There were no birds chattering. We take bird chirps for granted and don't really hear them, but when they are not there the quiet is rather eerie!

Anyway, I'm happy here in the warmth and comfortable when its 100º or better. Growing up in the humid and cold gray skies of Pennsylvania, I had always joked that I was 18 until I knew what "blue skies" were, as opposed to gray skies every day.

Anyway, my apologies for rambling too much, probably more than anybody wants to know or cares about. It is just a matter of feeling comfortable here, and for that I thank you all! Peace and Best to Everybody!

My favorite football teams for New Orleans, I still have to pull for Washington even though they have an idiot for an owner, and whoever is playing Dallas. I also pull for Seattle and the Titans. Even before Mr. Rich Boy bought the former Redskins, I never hated Philly or the Giants. They were just rivals.

I grew up on St. Louis Cardinal baseball and myself and my two kids bleed Cardinal red.

Tombstone, how do you feel about the Arizona Cardinals? The Seattle Seahawks will be coming to Glendale to meet (and, I hope, beat) them on October 25.

As for telling us too much, be aware that many of us have been together more than 20 years and all of us have been together a bunch of years. We're thrilled to get to have someone new to get to know. You can learn more than you ever wanted to know about us by reading this thread and any of the others.

Tombstone, I'm delighted to know so much more about you. You were a breath of fresh air on Political Grill when I used to post there.

I'm envious of you for living in Arizona. I lived in New Mexico for a year, passing through when moving from Texas to Washington State in the 70s, and for many years I took car trips through the Southwest just to refresh my soul with the beauty of the land and the sky. The last time, in 2015, I spent the night in Kokopelli's Cave in Farmington, New Mexico. Do you know Kokopelli's Cave?

This year after your vote for Mark Kelly flips the Senate, you'll be a hero!

Hi, Tombstone. Nice to meet you. I grew up in SE PA, Frazer, to be exact. After finishing sixth grade, my dad took a job in Argentina. I lived there six years, and then came back. Mom lives in West Chester, but we kids are scattered to the winds, NY, MD, RI and MI. It was kind of rural back then, but now is depressingly congested.

Gotta run. I have a virtual doctor’s appointment coming up. I love not having to drive to the doctor’s office.

Nice to meet you, Tombstone. I've visited Tombstone before, and it is quite a treat!

I'm a 4th-generation Coloradan who married a New Yorker I met while attending the University of Colorado at Boulder (3rd-generation CU grad, BTW). Subsequently, I lived in exile for many years - first in New York City, then in San Francisco and the SF Bay Area - before persuading Mr. Queue to bring me back to the Colorado Rockies 10 years ago.

Speaking of the Rockies - I'm not a huge baseball fan, which you might understand if you look at the Rockies' performance. I did enjoy rooting for the SF Giants and the Oakland A's when I lived in the Bay Area (except for that nasty earthquake they caused during the World Series in 1989).

I do love the Denver Broncos, and I'm hoping they'll do better this year, but it's not looking promising so far. I'm also a huge fan of the University of Colorado Buffaloes, although they're not likely to play this fall since the Pac-12 has so far opted out of fall games. Right now, I'm rooting for the Denver Nuggets to beat the LA Lakers for the Western NBA championship. We're down 2 - 1 so far.

Welcome to the best-moderated political board!

As a NY Mets fan, I haven't been able to root for a professional baseball team for quite a while. 2020 has been no different, even if Jacob deGrom has been brilliant again and could well win his third consecutive Cy Young Award this year.

I'm not sure if we'll get 'em next year, but it would be nice if it looked like we at least had a chance sometime again.

Welcome, Tombstone!

I have a son who lives and works in Reading, PA. It's interesting how all of us have intersecting lines in one aspect or another.

One thing I want to address in your first introduction. You said something about being somewhat ashamed of your service, given Trump's beating of the military.

Please don't ever be ashamed of your service. We have some veterans on this board, and I am SO grateful you served when I couldn't. Your work helped to keep us (and many citizens of other lands) free, and I appreciate you for doing it.

As for Trump and the other troglodytes, don't let them get you down. We and the other decent people of this country have your back. emoticon

Well, I haven't quite figured out the format of runboard.

Hello, belletres! Some people are probably too kind. I'm a former steelworker, now-retired Soldier, and currently a railcar repairman.

Some of the people here I've known on online forums going back a few...well, a little while. Let's just put it that way. I'm part of the old TimeOnline gang, which is where some of these folks found me. Why they were in any place that would let me in, I don't know. They all seem like decent folk.

Overall my life is going okay. I'm a grandfather these days. My daughter (the youngest of my two children) has given me a healthy, wonderful grandson. He's ten months old now.

I retired from the National Guard last May after 31 years in the military.

I'm looking forward getting to know the folks I don't and reconnecting with those I do.
