We maintain that the votes for quadrupeds were not properly counted that year. Our attempts at legal challenges were thwarted because the USSC was too busy trying to figure which of the two bipeds they preferred.

The system is rigged, I tell ya!

Bricklayer, I am so envious of you, for living in Santa Fe for 10 years! Santa Fe is my favorite city (although "city" is the wrong word for it; it's city size, but village style). Santa Fe architecture, though, is not made with bricks as we know them. How do you construct Santa Fe architecture, bricklayer?

I did a lot of adobe work in Santa Fe, but specialized in stonework, including a lot of flagstone patios and floors. I also laid a lot of brick pavers, many thousands, and built some brick fireplaces.

There are two prevalent architectures in Santa Fe, Pueblo style and Territorial style. Brick is used in floors in Pueblo style(adobe and stucco, even mud plaster), and used in Territorial in floors also, but primarily in decorative parapet walls. Brick window sills and wall caps are often used to accent the stucco.

I loved my time in Santa Fe.

My favorite brick job was in White Rock, New Mexico, a very large home with a beautiful Tudor style window with a complex of arches separating the multiple lights with every brick custom ground and cut. It also had a hexagonal tower which started with three sides on the ground floor and completed itself into six sides as the pitch of the roof allowed.

Considering the fact that I worked in both NY and Florida where brick is more widely used I find it interesting that my favorite brick job in New Mexico where it is relatively rare. My favorite stone job was also in New Mexico, but that isn't as surprising. But one of the many reasons that I so loved living there was the opportunity to work on many interesting and challenging projects.

I'm 40...mumble... born in Minnesota, was a Broadway dancer after college but missed my folks and younger sister and returned home. Married a fire fighter from Mississippi, have two children. Caught a virus somewhere that all but destroyed my heart and had two open heart surgeries. I'm far from well but I'm a survivor, enough of that.

Have a home in New York State where my sister is living after her marriage broke up. We moved to Canada several years ago and we're staying. I created the political grill board and the USA board before that. Belle and Hawk were on both sites so we know each other well. That's it for now.

I started out as Birdzeye at the old TOL boards and have been drifting around ever since.

I'm in my late 60s and retired from FDA after 42 years with the feds, the last 29 at FDA. I miss the people but not the work. It was getting increasingly stressful. I thought the transition to a paperless office would be a blessing. LOL.

I live in Maryland with my husband of 44 years and four noisy parrots: three cockatoos and one eclectus parrot. We were going to stop at two, but we found out that the parents of our first cockatoo, who died, were still alive and a breeding pair, so we took on one of their chicks. Then we fell in love with a "rescue" cockatoo.

Instead of keeping house, I knit and quilt.

The cockatoos are white with cute yellow feather crests on the tops of their heads. The eclectus is blue and red.

Re: Introduce yourself

I am a 60+ woman with a husband of 40+ years and two adult children, one of whom is married and now lives in the same town here in Colorado, the other one lives in Portland, OR and is a starving musician in various rock bands.

I am a fourth-generation Coloradan who lived in exile in Kansas, New York City and San Francisco for far too many years before persuading Mr. Queue to bring me back to my Rocky Mountains in 2010. I am as happy as a pig in mud to be back home. While Mr. Queue is a native New Yorker, we met at the University of Colorado in Boulder, and he seems equally happy to be living back in Colorado.

My first job after graduating from CU was as a newspaper reporter/photographer for a small daily newspaper in Kansas. Kansas and I did not get along very well, so I moved to New York and went to work for a magazine for a year or so before becoming the assistant editor of the employee publication for Morgan Guaranty Trust on Wall Street.

We left New York during a nasty winter in 1978, moving to San Francisco, where I worked for Bank of America, producing a monthly magazine and various newsletters and supervising a staff of five. That was fun until BofA got taken over by "foreigners" (AKA non-Californians).

Once my kids came along, I opted to go freelance, and I've been on my own ever since, writing newspaper and magazine articles for various clients (actually serving as the freelance editor of a monthly publication for the Contra Costa Times newspaper organization for several years).

Most of my current clients are hospitals and physician organizations, all of which are located in California and have been my clients for 10+ years. I do all my work with them via phone and Internet.

I first met Robbie and the rest of the TOL gang about 20 years ago. Time flies!

I am 61 and 1/4 years old. I think that including fractional years like we did as kids makes it sound somewhat less ancient. As a terribly tall (6'7") person IRL I have too often been asked "What's up, Chuck?" and decided to go ahead and own that. I started on the old Time boards way back whenever, posting at first on the Evolution vs. Creationism threads.

Professionally I am a Mechanical Engineer, working in the space business. After tomorrow that changes when I become voluntarily unemployed. I'm kind of an odd bird as far as engineers go and I like to use the creative side of my brain and hope to get back to some painting, guitar playing, photography, etc. again for a while.

Politically I'm very moderate and independent, I think. In today's world it seems that makes me a liberal. I used to vote Republican a lot but that party left the building for me sometime during the Clinton administration.

Married for 37 years, with two grown children. Sometimes I act like there's two of me. It's a long story.

Are the two of you the top half and the bottom half (of the 6'7"), or the engineering and the guitar-playing? (I would think being a mechanical and space engineer would help with the painting and the photography.)

In any case, I'm happy for both of your halves, now that they will be free to roam without supervision.

There's a video on Youtube, I think, that has a cockatoo parading around on the top of his cage just cursing everyone out. He uses the "F" word a lot...lol.

It is very obvious. This room is populated by some truly interesting people who are also a lot of fun. Don't know how I have missed this group over the years.

Thanks, Hawk. We hadn't been very easy to find when we were on Yuku. The board was membership by approval only, and we didn't advertise.

I'm glad we're open now, though, and are getting to know some of you from The Political Grill.
