Re: The Rumpus Room

They just issued a tornado watch here. Since Good Friday happens during spring, when severe weather often occurs, it’s not surprising to have severe weather on Good Friday. I suppose the devout might see that as a sign of some sort.

When I was a kid, my family lived in Puerto Madryn, Argentina. Since then, they’ve begun a new Good Friday custom. They’ve submerged the Stations of the Cross in Golfo Nuevo, and on Good Friday, a priest visits the Stations in a small submarine.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Catholic tradition of the Stations:

I am not Catholic, and for a long time I did not know what "stations of the Cross" meant when I would come across it in reading. As I walked around the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, I saw these little scenes in niches around the wall, and guessed that they must be depictions of the stations.

So.... After leaving here, I got everything up and running to get back to work. And decided I really didn't care about Federal Reserve Bank balance sheets. So I went back to my recliner to sleep -- for about another five hours! Geez....

We always did Stations of the Cross, and Good Friday lasted 9-12 every year. My favorite part of the entire mass was the incense that the altar boys were slinging everywhere. emoticon

I'll put something in the Religion thread to explain it, Robbie. It's pretty simple.

Oh, whoops! I missed her link. Well, it's in written form in the Religion thread if you're interested.

Oddly enough, I thought there were 12 stations. The Catholic Online website says there are 14. I saw another link talking about 10. I can't imagine individual churches determining their own numbers....

We always went to the cathedral, which seated thousands of people, so there was no room for the congregants to make a pilgrimage from statue to statue. The priest and the altar boys would do that, and then say what happened and a prayer at each statue. Then the priest would sing, "Let us kneel." And after a few seconds, "Let us stand." And then move on to the next statue. I just remember feeling so bad for all of the older women (many of them wearing lace head coverings) struggling to get up and down repeatedly....

Seriously, Mother Nature?

Tomorrow morning, our club goes to a local park and spreads tens of thousands of candy-filled eggs for the city-wide Easter egg hunt.

Meteorologists just predicted a HIGH of 40 degrees tomorrow, with rain, snow, and sleet, and winds gusting to 35 mph.

Seriously???

Herod really messed up crucifying Jesus in April (or maybe March). The weather is totally unreliable.

48 degrees. Stars everywhere except in the northwest, and bright moon.

I'm glad you got all of that sleep, Lis. You're making up for the last few months of missing it.

Herod didn't crucify Jesus, Robbie.

Coffee, Tanya.

It's 43 and sunny once it appears over the trees. It should hit lates 60s and will slowly warm over the next several days.

Ya for badhorsie and her new digs! Hopefully, [sign in to see URL] I get that right?.......will make the move without much rancor. Shadow hates the cat carrier. The last time she went to the vet it took both of us to get her in it. She doesn't like being picked up either.

I'm glad to see Lis getting some good sleep! I thought I would never get to sleep last night, but it wasn't bad once I was able to doze off again.

I'm glad you finally got to sleep, Cooter. I had an abandonment dream last night: Friends took me to a party in Houston and left me there with strangers, and it was dark out. Luckily, I realized that it was a dream before I got panicky. Do you all do that? Sometimes, in the dream, realize that it's a dream?

Good morning, all. We have 41F with fog that is trying to burn off, heading for a high of 61F and sunshine.

I have no idea what I'm doing today.

Coffee, please, Tanya.

The Matrix nurse will be here shortly to evaluate my health. This is a yearly service provided by Kaiser Permanente, my health care insurance. The nurse comes to your home and take your vital signs and discuss your present health and give you advice about what kind of care you need for any problems.

My stimulator came today. Rest assured that I will be trying it out today. It has a good many extra pads, and they say they last 30-45 days. Insurance may not cover them, but I can order new ones for two bucks. No problem.

[sign in to see URL] went to bed last night a little after midnight. Brett came in from the living room around 12:30, and he went into the bathroom to brush his teeth and get ready for bed. I looked up at the bedroom door -- and there was a man standing in the door! Completely black in the shadows behind the TV. I froze, with the idiotic thought that if I didn't move, he couldn't see me. He didn't move. We stayed like that for more than a minute.

Then he started walking toward me, and I was wishing Brett wasn't taking to darn long brushing his stupid teeth! The man came into the light of the flickering TV.

It was Andrew.

Didn't know whether to hug him or strangle him, LOL! emoticon

Andrew told me he had called Brett to let him know he was coming, but he wanted to surprise me. I wondered why Brett stayed up so late last night when he had to work today. He was waiting up for Andrew to get here.

It continued to rain and wind this morning (though I didn't see snowflakes), so the community Easter Egg hunt was moved indoors to the city high school gym. Because the thousands of eggs were just dropped onto the floor in the two gyms, rather than over five softball fields, the spreading of eggs was done VERY quickly, and we could come back home. emoticon

It's just NASTY out there. And tomorrow we're supposed to have sunshine and 70. *shaking head* This time of year makes me crazy. Not that I have all that far to go....

It's amazing how often I get a product with incomplete instructions. This one doesn't tell me how to start a treatment. I can turn it on, select the program that I want, set the intensity after applying the pads, but I have no clue as to how to make it go. I pulled up their manual for it online. I may or may not try to deal with it tomorrow. I'll just have to call Monday, I guess.
