Best of luck with the weight, Cooter.

I went and got my haircut today.

I’m thinking of withdrawing totally from online political discussion boards (not this one), not even lurking. The vitriol and intellectual dishonesty is just too much, and has really gotten to me. I’ve lurked at YAP ever since I stopped posting there a few weeks ago, but I think I may have to stop even doing that. Same with the other forum I’m at.

I’ll have an Irish coffee, Ramondo, if I may.

I stopped posting at YAP a few months ago, Birdz. I lurked frequently for a while, then less often, now quite infrequently. I don't need to see all that nastiness on a regular basis.

We have some folks over there who aren't interested in factual intelligent discussion of actual issues. I'm posting less because of it, but I keep an eye on the place.

This is one of the reasons why I'm considering bailing from Facebook. I still have an account, but I haven't posted anything there in a week. I'll probably go take a look there in the near future, but so far I just don't seem to give a !@#$. The political rhetoric is bitter and the presence of any sense of what one might laughingly call "decorum" is nonexistent. I'm tired of the baiting and name calling. If folks wanna talk politics, I'm all in - but Facebook just isn't the place to do that. Hell, I'm even sick of posting "everyday" topics there. There's no community. It's just a melee of people talking over each other.

I stay away from politics on FB. I'll agree with stuff that Robbie posts, for instance, but I've limited my friends list to actual friends. I've turned down a number of people who sent me a friend request.

I’ve found Facebook useful for reestablishing contact with friends i grew up with when my family was living in Argentina, and with classmates at the American high school in Buenos Aires that i graduated from. But you all are right about the vitriol in politics there.

It saddens me that reasoned discussion is essentially nonexistent.

It is sad.... I have had to walk away from political boards for a time -- sometimes for years. But it was for the best the times that I did. Some I came back to and was glad I did. emoticon

Bottom line, you have to do what is best for you.

Thank goodness for this board! I woke up this morning resolved not to post on one particular other one, and lo and behold! you all are talking about leaving boards too. Are we telepathic?

Stars this morning! Lots and lots of stars. 35 degrees and deliciously cold out there.

Good morning, all. It’s 35 degrees this morning as was predicted. It promises to be a cool, clear day as it begins to warm up. I like it.

We pulled the starter out of my truck yesterday. I’m going to buy or order the new one today and hopefully my neighbor Todd and I will put in the new one by the weekend. It will be good to have it up and running whenever the job will be finished.

I have no plans for anything beyond the morning walk today. That could change. The weather is invigorating and there are a number of things I could do. The plan is to go with the flow.

I hope you all have good days.

Coffee, please, Tanya.

Good morning, all. It's 27F at my house, heading for sunny and 42F. That first walk Kudo and I take in the morning will get your attention.

This is a run-around-madly day. With my homeowners' association hat on I'm meeting with two different contractors whom we're hoping can address a water problem we're having at an entrance to our neighborhood park. Then I have a routine eye appointment. All three of those appointments happen one-after-another, so I hope all the timing works.

I'd better get good and awake. Coffee, please, Tanya.

Coffee, Tanya.

It's 46 here and sunny and will be slightly into the 30s tonight.

Bad Daddy didn't leave his girl enough food out last night. Good Shadow didn't try to drag me out of bed and we slept in some. I'm liking this 9 and more hours of sleep I've been getting.

I'm feeling some better, so hopefully I'll perk up and tend to a few chores today.

Good morning, everyone! 38F and partly cloudy (but sunny). The weather gurus are still trying to decide if we’re going to see a storm this weekend. Since today is senior discount day at the local Harris Teeter, maybe I’ll go stock up on the usual pre-storm stuff, like bread, milk, toilet paper . . . just kidding. I probably will go shopping but just make sure we have enough food to tide us through the storm, if it hits us.

Coffee, Tanya.

Good afternoon! We have light snow continuing -- maybe up to an inch when it's all done. emoticon

No, Belle, I'm not going anywhere. I'm only on two boards, and the other one only has a few people left; just a social board among friends. And I love all of you here, so I'm happy where I am. emoticon

Good luck with your truck, Brick!

I'm imagining you "running around madly," Robbie. I hope all the scheduling works out!

Yay for a forgiving Shadow, Cooter! And I'm so glad you're getting good sleep! emoticon

I've been watching that storm marching across the US, Birdz. It looks like it's going south of us, but may well hit your area. Brett is going out to help Cameron get a new car, so he's watching it, too.

When it rains, it pours.... Remember last week when we lost the furnace? (Just three weeks after they'd come out to do the annual check and maintenance?) Turns out it was a circuit panel in the furnace. $634 later (WHY can't these things go out on a Monday morning?), we have a new little board in there.

Now it's the washer. They're coming out tomorrow to figure out why it's constantly going off balance and the rubber is disintegrating. After 13 years of heavy use, I have a feeling a new washer will be in our near future....

I’m afraid that after 13 years, it may be time to get a new washer, Lis.

I replaced my washer last year. I did some research and decided on a Speed Queen for its reliability record. It was not cheap: in the $900+ range. I’m very happy with it.

I got a Speed Queen, too, about five years ago, and I really like it.

I'm back from my eye exam. There is no deterioration from diabetes, which is welcome news. I've lost a little bit of distance vision in my right eye, but I don't think it's enough to go to the expense of new glasses.

I'd forgotten he dilates my eyes every time I see him. And who would have expected bright sunshine in the Northwest on the sixth of December? Fortunately they have little handout sunglasses (actually, sun shade things you slap on the existing glasses) but it sure is bright out there.

It hasn't been a bad day. Even though it's not the weekend, all of my laundry is done because I felt like it and I've changed my bed.

Cleaned my CPAP stuff. I'll need to make a small grocery run tomorrow.

When I replaced my dryer I got a Kenmore on a Black Friday for about $200 under list. The washer came later. It was a big sale and they were giving senior discounts so I got both on a top washer that is normally around $750 for under $500. All of their products are well rated by CR and will save you money. My new fridge is a Kenmore and it was money well spent even though I didn't HAVE to have one. I got a couple hundred off on it. The dishwasher is a Whirlpool on a Black Friday deal and it's great! We programmed it how we wanted to run it and all we have to do now is hit "Start". It says "Clean" when it's through.

Re: The Rumpus Room

Thanks for the advice on Speed Queens and Kenmores. I can't believe I don't remember what brand mine is right now. It's one of those front-loading machines. While it's a lot more convenient, they quickly discovered that they grow mold and mildew if the door is not left open to thoroughly dry out the machine each time. We got a check as the result of a class action lawsuit about it. But our laundry always stinks. Does Consumer Reports say anything about whether they actually resolved that issue? With my shoulders, it REALLY helps to have a front loader. But I'll endure the pain if it means that my laundry won't stink anymore....

I'm glad you had such a good day and got so much done, Cooter!

Glad for your good news from your eye exam, Robbie!

I was tired again and decided to rest in the recliner sometime after 3:00. Woke up in darkness and was confused; it was shortly before 8:00. *sigh* Hope I can sleep tonight! (Though I feel like I could sleep for a week....)

Lis, I'm a CR subscriber both to the magazine and online. I'll be glad to check out products for you and everyone else. Kenmore's are always one of the recommended buys in appliances. I'm not sure who is making their stuff now, but it's still good. My washer is a large with no agitator. Does a great job. Has several cycles to choose from. I always live mine open for a while to dry after using, and I periodically run some cleaner through it as well as my dishwasher.

Guten Morgen!

Coffee, Tanya.

It's 41 which will be real close to our high for today and raining, which it's going to do for most of the weekend.

I think I may make some chicken soup. We eat a lot of soup when winter and late fall show up. It just sounds good right now.

Other than a grocery store run, I don't have much else to do other than putter around here and take care of a little housework.

Good morning, all. We have 21F with clear skies, heading for 43F. Clouds are expected to move in tonight, bringing us rain and above-freezing overnight temperatures. The sun has been wonderful, but the brrrrrr-cold overnights have been unusual for us.

I have puttering errands to run today. If I were a good person I would also slice up some turkey breast I bought into 4-ounce packages and freeze them. I wouldn't put much money on the idea of my being a good person.

Tonight is Friday night dinner with my kids, which I always enjoy.

Coffee, please, Tanya.
