Re: The Rumpus Room

Belated Happy Hanukkah, Robbie! (Although, since Hanukkah runs for 8 days, I guess it's still appropriate to wish you Happy Hanukkah?)

Our week in the San Francisco Bay Area, starting on Thanksgiving Day, was hectic, emotional and exhausting. I won't bore you with the details. emoticon

We got home very late last Thursday night, as our flight was delayed due to the heavy rain storms on the coast. I've been playing catch-up with work ever since.

I did managed to get my first round of the new shingles vaccine on Friday (and my arm has been sore ever since), just in time for an out-of-town guest for the entire weekend. He departed yesterday morning, and I've been attending to all the post-guest cleaning.

The weather here in my little corner of Colorado is chilly, but sunny and pleasant. Sounds as if all of you have been behaving yourselves? Sorry to hear about the various ailments and the car accident, but I'm relieved that you're all present and accounted for.

And Happy Hanukkah, Robbie!

The sewing group invited a sewing machine repair guy who does House calls to today’s meeting, to repair the group’s sewing machines that needed repairs, and the machines of anybody else who brought in her machine. He charges a house call fee plus a very reasonable fee (far less than the fabric shops charge for the same service) for maintenance and small repairs, plus the cost of any parts needed.

One regular volunteer brought in her daughter with her daughter’s machine for repair. The daughter also brought in a crock pot full of some home made pork stew. It was delicious.

I looked it up: Hanukkah began Sunday the 2nd and ends Monday the 10th.

Happy time, Robbie. Do you do something different each day, or do certain things on certain days? Educate us.

What a day.... It has remained very dark and gloomy for three solid days. Today it has been spitting very small snowflakes. Only accumulating on the roofs. Pretty.

I finally started to doze off around 8:30 this morning. Grrrrr.... Cleaning ladies came at 9:00. I'm absolutely exhausted, but don't dare go to sleep or my schedule will go upside down again.

Went to lunch with a couple of retired teachers. This place had Hungarian goulash! It was DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEElicious! Yes, I believe I could eat it every day. (And it even had green peppers, tomatoes, and onions in it, Robbie!)

Then took Mom to get her teeth cleaned. I can't STAND the process; my teeth hurt for two days afterward. She LOVES getting her teeth cleaned and it's been a while since she has been up to getting out to do it. So she's feeling very happy! emoticon

Lis - could it be that you have a dental hygienist who’s a brute? I’ve had some cleanings that left me feeling like I’d been punched in the mouth. Of course, I’ve had issues in the past with gingivitis and early stage gum disease that might have necessitated a less gentle approach to cleanings. More recently, my gums have been in decent shape and I’ve not had too much plaque buildup, my cleanings have been pretty untraumatic, and in fact, they got done in less than the hour allocated for the procedure.

I don't think so.... I've had several different hygienists over the years, all with the same results. I am completely freaked out by anyone putting anything in my mouth, so that stress clearly doesn't help. But my teeth are so painful that I need soft foods no stronger than scrambled eggs for two days. Frustrating, because I'm pretty darn impervious to pain in most cases.

I only have one filling and one crown from where a tooth broke. No gum disease. I'm really fortunate that my teeth have been so tough. At one point I went 14 years without a dental exam. Got a clean bill of health. Now I'm faithful about my every-six-months cleaning, but I always dread it.

Mom was just grinning like a cheeky little kid. "They feel so SMOOTH and CLEAN!" she kept saying. I'm very happy to see her so happy! emoticon

Hanukkah began at sundown on Sunday.

I don't do a damned thing about Hanukkah any more.

Well, Doc for a "home run", which he decided wasn't going to be the best and might not work. So we got rid of what was left of the molar. The tooth in front of it is in good shape and the next has a crown. He's going to make a cantilevered bridge on the two good teeth and cover the socket on the one we took out.

He has a new assistant added to the staff, and she was my assistant. A very pretty blond young lady with a great personality. I enjoyed talking with her while Doc was working elsewhere and she got me ready for him.

It's sore and there is some swelling which is anticipated. I've got instructions on how to treat it and what to expect. I keep cold compresses in my freezer and they feel good on the jaw.

This is actually the good part of the day. I could barely get around this morning and later in the day not only were my legs hurting but my neck and shoulders were aching and I just kind of ached all over. No other symptoms.

I'll kind of take it easy tomorrow and tend to some minor stuff if I feel better.

Sorry you had such a day, Cooter, but it sounds like you got out alive, which is always a good thing.

I hope Wednesday is gentle on you.

Lis and Cooter, y'all's dental problems HURT! I've got this wonderful dentist up here (not heaven, Pacific Northwest; "up" from Texas and New Mexico), the first dentist I've ever had who has never hurt me; and she put in several crowns. Actually I don't have her anymore. She sold her practice this year, but her replacement retained her office staff and dental hygienists.

Good morning, all. It's 25F with frost covering everything, heading for sunshine and 44F.

I changed the hummingbirds' feeder at about 6:30 this morning. The one I took down was frozen solid. I hope nobody hurt his or her tongue before I got them swapped.

Going to watch the funeral of George H W Bush.

Coffee over here on the sofa, please, Tanya.

Cold. Cold. Cold. December has asserted itself fully. The corgi doesn't seem to care though. As long as it snows, she's happy.

I'm going into Burlington later this morning to donate blood. Can I get anybody a pint o' plasma while I'm up?

Good morning, all. It’s 45 degrees outside expected to top out in the sixties today and dip into the 30s by morning. Shiva and I like it. Most other folks around here don’t. 😎

I’m still working on my outside lights, replacing bulbs where necessary and testing all of them before I hang them. I’m working on them in the garage so it’s comfortable and I can have a smoke while I work. Shiva is keeping me company. I’m aiming at putting them up tomorrow afternoon.

Aidan is with us today. He’s under the weather and Sandy took him to the doctor this morning. Both Franklin and Michele are working. He got a couple of prescriptions and had some blood drawn. He’s a trooper and he’s eating as we speak, always a good sign.

I’m doing better with the weaning process, less jittery. Jitteriness is the most uncomfortable aspect of it, so it is a welcome relief. I have two appointments next week and I always get somewhat stressed out as the dates approach so I’ll probably indulge myself and take a couple of doses using the “as needed” rationale. That is what they are prescribed for.

I’m watching President Bush’s funeral.

I hope you’re doing better today, Cooter.

Buenos dias!

Coffee, Tanya.

It's 39 and sunny and won't get much warmer. Low back in the 20s, but at least long range we'll get normal winter temps and rain instead of snow and freezing !@#$.

I forgot to mention that I've had the same hygienist for at least twenty years. She's really good and I played in the Ole Miss band with her Dad. Doc Ed is very good and stays on top of the latest technology.

The swelling on my gum went down in the night and I'll keep treating it with warm water and salt.

I neglected to mention that we'll just have to see how the day goes. I'm warmer after turning on the fireplace so DD can sleep in cool comfort in her room.

The neck and shoulders are better, but I'll just have to wait and see. The legs were not very good and I had to move slowly, which I should always do anyway........lol.

Shadow is in "kitty loaf" position while guarding the door into the dining room, etc.

Belle, I'm so glad you have a wonderful dentist! Last night, Mom proclaimed that she had no tooth pain from her cleaning whatsoever -- from the same hygienist I've had for years. So it's just me. emoticon

So glad your swelling has gone down and your neck and shoulders are better, Cooter. Keep moving slowly! emoticon

I'll take your 60s, Brick! It's 28 (wind chill 15) and it's been spitting those little snowflakes all night and all day. Just enough to cover the roads a little bit, but when a car drives by, it blows right off the road. So glad you're finding relief from your jitters! Good luck with your lighting duties. emoticon

How good of you to donate, Peter! Put a pint of something to replace it on my tab. emoticon

And how good of you to care for the hummingbirds, Robbie! I had to miss the funeral with meetings this morning and early afternoon....

My upper bod is a little better today. The legs still hurt and I have to be careful in my movements, but it's been better than yesterday for sure.

I'm going to smoke some ham steaks tonight and we'll make mac and cheese along with some yellow hominy.

I hope everyone else is doing well. I've lost two more pounds and my goal is to be under 260 by the end of the year.
