Thanks, Robbie. Mark’s chaplain, Father Dennis, called me and we had a pleasant chat that I found comforting. He’s out of town but said that he’d talk to Mark when he’s back early next week. He’ll also help me get in touch with the parish cemetery whose contact person isn’t returning my calls.

((((((((((Birdz))))))))))) Cooter is right. Please take good care of yourself. You know that the flight attendants always say to put on your own oxygen mask before trying to assist others with theirs....

I'm so glad your conversation with the chaplain brought you comfort. I hope he can help Mark find peace, as well....

Keeping you all in my thoughts....

Hola!

Coffee, Tanya.

It's 34 and clear this morning with another hard freeze on the menu for tonight.

DD is making chicken and wild rice soup and I'm thawing out some shrimp for shrimp tacos during the weekend. It might get to steak and salad Sunday night or Monday. We had grilled chicken and salad last night.

I figure I've lost around 20 lbs since the beginning of the year, or early part of it. I tried some diet things and also just haven't eaten as much because I haven't been hungry for about the last month, I guess. I've just gotten used to eating less.

Good morning, all. We have 41F and dense fog, heading for clearing and 51F. Fog makes the air seem colder than it is.

We tried a new place for dinner last night. It was jammed to the rafters so we went back to our usual place. Our usual place has had a lot of staff turnover lately, and they were slow taking our orders and slow getting the food to us. When it finally did come I never did get my salad, even though I reminded the young woman at the time she brought everything else. I will say they stepped up, though. They comped my meal and took Dave's and Lynne's pitcher of beer off the bill. I guess they couldn't have done much more than that.

Coffee, please, Tanya.

Good afternoon.... Woke up around 9:30 and saw the windchill was 1 degree above zero. I decided to go back to sleep. (Not that I was planning to go out anyway....)

Congrats on the weight loss, Cooter! Your menus look very healthy from here!

Sorry for your poor service last night, Robbie, but it sounds like the restaurant did the right thing. emoticon

Making Hungarian Goulash for a dozen people for dinner. We got the recipe when we were in Budapest this past summer. I found some purple fingerling potatoes, which should sweeten it up some and a gorgeous 4 lb piece of local beef shoulder. Add in all of the carrots, parsnips, celery, tomatoes, onions, garlic and sweet paprika - and this sucker should sing!

It's cold and windy outside today, what the hell else are you gonna do when it's like that?

Re: The Rumpus Room

I think I had some good goulash at a Hungarian restaurant in Buenos Aires when I was a kid. That was a long time ago.

Not a great day. I’m feeling overwhelmed by details that have to be attended to WRT Allan, and wondering what aren’t I thinking of. All of his assets are gone as a result of having been in a nursing home and paid for by Medicaid, so there’s no inheritance issue. It’s probably just as well that I don’t have wine right now, though I’d love some. I seem to sleep better if I don’t imbibe, so I’ll just settle for some decaf herbal tea.

It’s gotten cold and there’s a hard freeze warning tonight.

I'm sorry you're feeling overwhelmed, Birdz.... It is a lot of responsibility. No doubt you will do a good job.

Hope the tea is soothing....

We've been watching football all day, and I decided to have a medicinal glass of wine before playtime with Shadow and then hitting the hay. It's been some time since I've done that.

Funny you should mention Shadow, Cooter. Allan’s ashes are being sent to Mike, and Mike says that until the burial, they will occupy a place of honor beside the ashes of Mike’s cat. Allan was a big cat lover, so I’m sure he approves.

I noticed that DH affixed his “I voted” sticker to one of the bird cages. Wonder who the dear bird voted for, LOL.

Re: The Rumpus Room

Good morning, all. It’s 58 degrees right now as I get ready for the morning walk. It’s expected to top out in the high 70s. By Friday the temperatures are expected to dip into the low 40s. Finally. I can’t wait.

We’re holding good thoughts for you Birdz.

That goulash sounds great, Peter. I love soups and stews, especially as the cooler temperatures move in. Those meals are comfort food for me and remind me of my childhood on Staten Island. They are fond memories.

Cooter, I hope the wine helped you to sleep. I took a Benadryl and a half of a Xanax along with a little smoke and I was able to get what felt like several hours of restful sleep. I slept an extra two hours and I’ll happily take it. I might still be sleeping had I decided to wash it all down with a glass of red wine. 🙂

Good news on the weight loss, Cooter.

Coffee, please, Tanya. I have a strong brew setting on the new Keurig and I’ve been drinking Green Mountain Kenyan Highland lately. It’s a medium roast, but on the strong setting is very much to my liking. I’ll have a cup of that this morning, please. I still have time for a leisurely cup before heading to the park.

Good morning, all. We have 32F with dense fog which is supposed to burn off and bring us up to 52F.

I'm going to see my Canadian friends for lunch today. I sure hope the fog lifts before I need to drive up the freeway.

Coffee, please, Tanya.
