Awwww, Birdz, I'm sorry to see this development. The good news is that you and your doctor are right on top of it. Hopefully they will be able to deal with it as quickly as possible.... And that darn AC! Hope they get that fixed, too! emoticon

Hope you had a great time fishing, Brick!

*whew* Belle! So glad you were okay from that tornado! I've been directly affected by two and have seen multiple others.... Last night's storm just kept redeveloping, and we got those deep, rolling thunder rumbles that shook the house for hours and hours.... I think maybe five hours? It was delightful....

Hope DD is doing better, Cooter.

I'm excited for tonight's election results, too, Robbie. I suspect some of them may go very late because results will be close, so maybe I'll get a nap this afternoon. I've got a bunch of meetings over the next three days, so I won't have time for napping then!

Ha! On MSNBC, they were showing part of a Lester Holt interview of Spike Lee and the producer of the film BlackKlansman. The producer said he had just gotten a call the day before [sign in to see URL] Duke! ROFL! He was concerned about how he would be portrayed in the film -- and then said he always had a lot of respect for Spike Lee! ROFL!!!!

My podiatrist called. The radiologist believes there is a bone infection, so I’m having an outpatient procedure on Friday to get a culture. This procedure only requires local anesthetic.

The bad news is that I’m probably going to spend a few days next week in the hospital for IV antibiotics. If they have WiFi, you’ll still hear from me.

It’s going to feel strange being in the hospital when I don’t feel sick.

I've never been in overnight, but I at least was admitted for that boobectomy. You'll be fine, Birdz. I have confidence in you!

Bonjour!

Coffee, Tanya.

It's 72 and cloudy and those little boomers may get here. It looks like a tomato sandwich for lunch. We've got plenty coming in. I took 5 or 6 to Janet when I met her to get DD's meds Monday, I guess it was.

Not much planned for today other than going to get the temperature [sign in to see URL] on my wagon so I can have AC that works all the time and blows cold air. They charge me around $80 to resolder the contacts, which beats hell out of $750 for an entirely new console.

Good morning, all. We have 61F under sunny skies, heading for a high of 84F. That's too hot for us weather wimps.

Nothing really on tap for today.

Iced coffee, please, Tanya.

The dealership gave me a ride back home. The problem isn't what we thought. It's a wire that is in a harness and it will take time to find out which one it is. If this takes too long, I might as well have bought a new unit.

We’re winding down our mini reunion with dinner with everyone gathering here tonight Sean is cooking on the Egg, smoked meatloaf and baby back ribs. He and Carolyn will be headed out for home first thing Friday morning. The rest of the time together after dinner tonight will be Sandy and I and Sean and his family, a much less hectic dynamic. We’re all ready for that. Next year, it has been decided will be in June rather than July, a very good idea. *g*

Iced tea, please, Tanya. It’s hot as hell.

Smoked meatloaf is really good! I'm smoking thick center cut pork chops tonight.

I’m scheduled for my procedure on Friday at 2:30. In the meantime, I have to get blood work and a foot ultrasound. I have an appointment for the latter Friday morning, and I’ll probably get the blood work tomorrow after I get my car back.

I left the car at the shop yesterday to fix the AC and they discovered that the front struts are shot. $$$$

It's a bit after 3:00 PM here and it's 89F outside. We usually hit our temperature high around 5:00 PM.

I got Kudo to come inside for about 15 minutes, but then she insisted on going back out. Kudo is nuts.

I resemble that remark, Birdz! I do hope your procedure goes well on Friday, and that you don't have to deal with an extended hospital stay.

I just got home from the memorial service for my friend Karen's husband. She is in a women's scholarship group with me, and we often play bridge with a group of gal pals. I had gotten the scholarship women to provide dinner last night for Karen's extended family, and it was the first time I had seen her since Steve's death on August 3. Steve had the same type of brain cancer that killed Ted Kennedy and Beau Biden and is now killing John McCain. It's a nasty, aggressive beast that spares no one. Karen was her wonderful upbeat self last night, but I know this has been a long ordeal for her and the family, and I also know that after the "busyness" of caring for him and arranging the memorial service, she's likely to finally have reality hit home when their adult children and other out-of-town family members leave her alone in the house where they've lived for so many years.

Steve's death is one of three I've faced this past week, and I'm definitely feeling sad. I know this "blue mood" will pass, as it is situational, not chronic, but I'm really starting to agree with my older friends who opine, "Growing old is not for sissies."

In case you're interested, here is Steve's obit:
[url][sign in to see URL]

Turns out Steve had actually gone to college with John Denver in Texas, and he was a big fan of John Denver's music (as am I). At the memorial, Steve's 10-year-old granddaughter Azalea sang "Poems and Prayers and Promises." (lyrics copied below). There was not a dry eye in the place, and I swear that half the town was there for the service. (I did have to chuckle at a little girl singing the phrases about "I've known my lady's pleasures," and "While all my friends and my old lady sit and pass the pipe around," but dang, this little girl could SING!!

RIP, Steve. It's been a good life all in all.

Poems, Prayers and Promises

I've been lately thinking
About my life's time
All the things I've done
And how it's been
And I can't help believing
In my own mind
I know I'm gonna hate to see it end.

I've seen a lot of sunshine
Slept out in the rain
Spent a night or two all on my own
I've known my lady's pleasures
Had myself some friends
And spent a time or two in my own home.

And I have to say it now
It's been a good life all in all
It's really fine
To have a chance to hang around
And lie there by the fire
And watch the evening tire
While all my friends and my old lady
Sit and pass the pipe around.

And talk of poems and prayers and promises
And things that we believe in
How sweet it is to love someone
How right it is to care
How long it's been since yesterday
And what about tomorrow
And what about our dreams
And all the memories we share.

The days they pass so quickly now
Nights are seldom long
And time around me whispers when it's cold
The changes somehow frighten me
Still I have to smile
It turns me on to think of growing old
For though my life's been good to me
There's still so much to do
So many things my mind has never known
I'd like to raise a family
I'd like to sail away
And dance across the mountains on the moon.

And I have to say it now
It's been a good life all in all
It's really fine
To have a chance to hang around
And lie there by the fire
And watch the evening tire
While all my friends and my old lady
Sit and pass the pipe around.

And talk of poems and prayers and promises
And things that we believe in
How sweet it is to love someone
How right it is to care
How long it's been since yesterday
And what about tomorrow
And what about our dreams
And all the memories we share.
