It’s been raining cats and dogs here all day long, and the rain gauge shows that we got 4” of rain. Other places got more. Oh, and needless to say, we’re under a flood warning.

I was going to go out to the gym and to get a manicure, but it was raining so !@#$ hard that I said screw it.

OK. I'm going to sacrifice some beers and pork tomorrow to make things right for Robbie again.

Something must be going around because I've had a really bad day being on my feet. The pain at times was quite bad, but I've got the stem cell treatment coming and maybe it will make things better! I'm going to have a positive attitude for myself and for The Miz! Take care of her, Kudo.

Thank you, Cooter!

I'm looking forward to your stem cell treatment, too. I'm on board with the idea that this is going to make your life a whole lot better!

In the mean time, set 'em up, Ramundo.

Sorry you’re aching, Cooter. I know I have good days and I have bad days. I’m trying to improve my gait, which seems to have gotten messed up with this spinal issue.

It looks like we’re in for “scattered thunderstorms,” which I take to mean that we won’t be having nonstop heavy rain all day long. Maybe I can hit the gym (I’ve read that recumbent bike exercise is good for spinal stenosis patients) and get that much needed manicure.

Hawk, I hope you see this. As we were coming home from the conference, construction on the main highway sent us off into the fields for a workaround. We saw something that NONE of us has seen before. We expect to see the kids out detassling the corn right about now.... But we came upon a MASSIVE corn field, and it had been butchered! Clearly, the farmer had used some kind of machine with a blade that CHOPPED OFF the entire top section of the plant! Is that typical out in Iowa? We've never seen such a thing....

Not in Fayette or Winneshiek Counties. The next time i talk to George, i will ask him if he is familiar with any detassling machine. Sounds like something you would see on the huge corporate farms. Not on the 600 acre family farms that are the general rule in northern Iowa and southern Minnesota. I dont know about Indiana, but the coming of age rituals for teenagers in Iowa include detassling corn and walking soybean fields, as well as throwing 70 pound square bales around while baling hay; and on some hog operations, castrating feeder pigs. I am not ashamed to admit that all three of our children, including both girls paid their dues. Just as i did when i first arrived in the US during the summer of my 16th year. And at 5:30 am on my first morning, my grandfather introduced me to life on a southern Minnesota farm. And that outwardly gruff, caring old man taught me an incredible amount over the next two years before he shipped me off to university

Buon pomeriggo amiaci miei. We continue to have unseasonably mild temperatures here on the northern end of the Adriatic. In Fahrenheit terms it is 83 degrees with a mild breeze blowing in off the water. We are past the mid point of July and we have yet to have the temps hit 90F. We do have thunder storms moving in. But all things. Considered, i can live with it.

Yesterday i got to play Nanny to my two grand daughters during the morning and early afternoon. Lots of fun. Then last night we had Ms Becnky’s birtday party at a top notch ristorante down the road between Duino and Trieste. All local seafood straight off the boat. Good stuf and reasonably priced.

Hope this finds every in good health and spirits.

Good morning, all. We're starting out at 57F under blue skies, heading for 80F this afternoon.

My Canadian honorary granddaughter and her now-husband have come home from Salt Lake City for a week with her parents. I'm invited to early dinner this afternoon/evening, and I'm looking forward to seeing them.

I hope everyone has an enjoyable Sunday.

Coffee, please, Tanya. Iced.

Have a nice visit, Robbie! It always feels so good when family comes home.... emoticon

So glad you had a wonderful day, Hawk. I asked Brett about the corn slasher, and he said he had seen such a thing before, but as you said, only on the big corporate farms. Corn detassling is a rite of passage among the rural kids here, too.

Yikes on all that rain, Birdz! Hope the recumbent bike brings you some relief!

Hope the stem cell treatment will make all the difference for you, Cooter! Meanwhile, if you're interested in sending part of your rib sacrifice my way.... *G*

It's the cocktail hour [sign in to see URL].

I was watching The Open, then the baseball game, then a show that I like, and here I finally am.

My contractor for my roof who is a close friend brought over some corn, tomatoes and squash yesterday and I gave him some trout. We're having some of the corn done in the smoker tonight along with pork chops and sweet potatoes.

I hope everyone had a nice day. It only hit 85 today and that may be a high for the coming week.

I had a wonderful time with my Canadian friends, and dinner was wonderful, as always. It consisted of fresh steamed mussels over pasta and a green salad. The mussels were steamed in a broth containing diced tomatoes, celery, and herbs I cannot name. Dessert was blueberry cobbler.

It was a lovely day for a drive and traffic was a breeze coming home (a little congested going up) and the wait at the border had only one car ahead of me.

Nice Sunday!

That sounds wonderful!

I overcooked the corn and the pork chops weren't my best. The sweet potatoes were very good, though!

Sorry, that's an appraisal I don't recognize. Remember that my last step in any sweet potato recipe is "Scrape them into the garbage." emoticon

Good to see that you had a nice Sunday, Robbie. We did too. We had Aidan for the afternoon while Michele and Eva went to one of Eva’s schoolmate’s party, all girls. He is always fun.

It’s our morning to walk and it looks like the weather will cooperate. I might do my annual pressure washing project starting today after that. It’s a job that I stretch over two or even three days. I’d like to get it done before Sean and company get here this coming Saturday.

Coffee, please, Tanya.

Good morning, all. We're starting a warm week at 57F, climbing to 84F this afternoon. We're out of the Goldilocks zone, now.

Later today I will take my most recent bill from Comcast to their store and ask them why it went up ten bucks a month when I barely get any TV variety. Because they can, I suspect.

Iced coffee, please, Tanya.

Hola!

Coffee, Tanya.

It's 74 and partly cloudy this morning, headed for a high of eighty-one! No rain in the forecast for the next several days and the highs only to the low eighties! Yowza!

Dad and DD have to make a shopping run along with a couple of other errands, then tend to some outside chores. I hope that my back isn't as it has been because I've got to get the edger out. She said she could handle that and I know she can but I was going to let her clean the back porch. I guess I could do that because it would be easier on me.

Let her do it, Cooter. Ah, youth! emoticon

Robbie, Brett goes into the cable business every few months to complain about the bill, and they always offer some "special" that lowers the bill for a few months. When the bill goes back up, he goes in for the next "special." Good luck in getting one! emoticon

Hope your pressure washing project goes easily, Brick!

This week is absolutely packed with meetings and things to do....

My recently widowed friend has left, so now I'm trying to get caught up with work -- both business work and household work -- but I'm going to take this afternoon off to play bridge with a group of my gal-pals. I deserve a break after the past several weeks!!

The weather has been HOT for northern Colorado, but we're finally getting some relief today (and maybe even a bit of rain).

Take care, everyone!

Buon giorno!

Coffee, Tanya.

It's 71 and clear this AM. I get the stitches out of my mouth in about an hour and later get the stem cells in my knees. Doctor [sign in to see URL] [sign in to see URL] Doctor DD say I'm supposed to stay off of my feet until tomorrow. Who am I to argue?

Here's hoping that Susie gets some time off. That girl has got to be about 30 with all of the stuff that she takes care of.
