I get the ones telling me that I have four serious outstanding charges pending against me and that the authorities are on their way unless I call this number now.

The FBI is after those folks.

The first time the “IRS” called, I was shook up, even though I knew I had paid my taxes. They’ve called again from time to time.

The other scam call that cracks me up is the one about my “Windows license” expiring. I have a Mac. LOL

Some people in town posted on the town Facebook page that they got calls today, allegedly from the power company, telling them that their electric bill payment was past due and that a truck was on its way to cut off power. The only way to stop that was to pay cash (something like $1000) by immediately going to CVS to buy Green Dot cards (?) and giving the caller the PIN numbers. One person pretended to go along to see where it would take her, but figured from the outset that it was a scam because she had received no prior past due notices by mail or phone.

And, as we all know, the power company accepts Green Dot cards for payment. emoticon

Welcome home, Lis!

All I can say about your aborted move to Western Washington is "Drat!" At our parties we talk about things. One time my writers' group had a party to which the spouses of the writers were invited. One of our members was writing an autobiographical novel in which the viewpoint character, Jack, had an affair with a neighbor, Diane. At the party, Suzy, our imp, asked "Jack's" wife whether he really had an affair with Diane. We gasped in shock that Suzy would ask such a thing. We leaned forward eagerly to hear the answer. (She said, "If he did, that's his problem.")

George Vancouver gave Deception Pass that name because it had misled him into thinking Whidbey Island was a peninsula. The "deception" was heightened due to Whidbey's failure to find the strait at first. In May 1792, Vancouver was anchored near the southern end of Whidbey Island.

There's a picture of Deception Pass at the link. One of our writers, Rowena, wrote a story called "Things That Go Bump in the Lake." It was about a couple who were rowing on Pass Lake when their canoe bumped into a dead body.

Guten Morgen!

Coffee, Tanya.

It's 77 and clear at the time at Cooter Farms, although showers and boomers are likely. We're picking cocktail tomatoes every day now, and they've gotten pretty tall. It regular tomatoes should have some in another week or so.

That's a good story about "bump in the lake" Belle and it was nice to see pics of where you are. The Miz made a map of her area for me when I came up to visit that I still have. That was a great trip! It just didn't last long enough.

We defrosted the freezer yesterday afternoon, and I have to load the food out of the coolers back into this morning.

Good morning, all. We have high, thin, white clouds covering most of the sky, and 64F, heading for 73F and possible showers later this afternoon.

I have my annual physical this afternoon. I don't expect anything remarkable to come from it.

Coffee, please, Tanya.

Awwwwwww.... Sweet! emoticon

Hope your physical goes well, Robbie.

Thanks for the explanation and pictures, Belle. I followed the link to your island. Beautiful!

Those scammers are infuriating, Birdz. Feel awful for the people who fall for them. One almost got Mom once.

Got Mom to her kidney/bladder ultrasound and labs this morning.... Heart ultrasound comes up this afternoon. Hope to get this all set! emoticon

Good luck to your mom, Lis.

It’s cloudy and 84F, with chance of storms. Now that I got the car back, I may make a quick run to the farmers market to pick up some squash and corn. I love being able to get my fruits and veggies at farmers markets in the summer.

Re: The Rumpus Room

Here’s to an unremarkable physical, Robbie. Good luck to both you and your mom, Lis.

It’s another quiet, rainy afternoon here in sunny Florida. Actually it just started a heavy downpour minutes ago. It will cool it down some which is good. I have no plans to do any outdoor projects. For that matter I don’t plan on any indoor projects either.

I picked up the parts for the washing machine repair in Ocala this morning. It took about an hour to do both repairs and I’m happy to say it now works. I’d guess I saved about a hundred dollars in parts and labor, enough to treat Sandy and myself to a nice dinner one evening. Next project, my truck. There is no rush. It’s just as well, I’m not really motivated to start another one quite yet.

Iced tea, please, Tanya. Make it a Long Island Iced Tea. I know I heard someone mention that it’s Friday. 😎

I thawed out two pounds of nice sized shrimp. I'll steam half and use the other half for the seafood pasta I'm doing for supper.

We're about to get hammered. What is headed my direction contains a very dark red cell in it. It has a little time to calm down before that line of storms gets here. I can't remember a June/July when we've had this much rain damn near every day.

Wow, Brick and Cooter. Hope your rains bring you cooling relief and then go away soon....

Forgot to mention that when we visited Andrew, we went to a nice Mexican restaurant for Fourth of July dinner. Had an absolutely delicious strawberry margarita while waiting for dinner to arrive! It was SOOOOOOOO good, and I so rarely have them, that when the server came back, I asked for another. THAT one was mostly gone before dinner finally arrived.

ZZZT. ZZZT. emoticon

And now it's after 5:00 on Friday here, so I'll buy everyone's first round tonight. emoticon

A Lisberry margarita over here, please! emoticon

Oh, my gosh, Brick! I had to look that up. Those look SOOOOOOOO good! Hope you'll enjoy!

I haven't a clue what's happening for supper here.... Last night I was on my own for bean and bacon soup.... When I was bringing Mom home from her tests this morning, she wanted McDonald's. None of the breakfast stuff looked good to me. But as I pulled up to the window to pick up her meal, I realized they had oatmeal. Yes! So I started to circle back around to the drive-through to order, and about five cars were waiting in line. No, thanks. So I came home to make canned ravioli at lunchtime. I'm ready for some real food. emoticon

Oh, my gosh! I just now remembered that Brett is working in Indianapolis today! Where they have REAL real food! I can convince him to bring something GOOD home! Hooray! emoticon

Oh, thanks, Lis! I’ll have a sangria, please.

It’s nice to have working AC in the car. I went to the farmers market and got some corn and zucchini. I was disappointed that the broccoli season is over until cooler weather returns, but glad that they have peaches now.
