The Rumpus Room

The Rumpus Room is our online restaurant and bar, where all are welcome to this PFZ (Politics-Free Zone.) We may have our differences out there, but in here. . . we're all friendly. We remember our late host, Susan Scruby, who saw to it that our every food and drink needs were met, and pledge to continue in that tradition.

The bartender is Ramundo (an undergraduate student at Western Washington University and a great listener!). Ramundo is supervised by Raoul Dangerfield, that international man of mystery who knows how a bar should be run. We have also acquired the services of Tanya who brings us what we order any time of the day or night. We've brought the Bust o' Babs with us during every move, and it is safely parked on the back bar counter. We've completely restored the Bob Dornan Whine Cellar and for you cigar aficionados, we've added the Wayne Hayes Memorial Humidor for the storage of your favorite stogies. The Osama bin Laden shooting gallery is always lively. There is a new pool out back, with a patio full of deck chairs around it. Please do not refer to the diving platform as a waterboard, as it tends to make Dick Cheney appear and give a long speech.

You also might enjoy a stroll in the garden out back where the backyard smoker is always available to cure your favorite meats, fish, and poultry. Sit a spell, eat, drink and be merry. The kitchen is open 24/7, or bring something for a potluck surprise.

There is a great espresso machine for those who are interested...

Welcome all....

But be warned -- in here, the inmates are clearly in control!

A very large glass of chardonnay, please, Ramundo. I'm beat.

Give the first drinks to all the new arrivals on the house, too.

Thank you!

Thanks, Brick!

Look around at the threads. I didn't bring them all over, so if there's a thread you'd like that I didn't get, just let me know and I'll go get it.

Busted Bust

Suzie and Robbie, then Robbie and Suzie
They circled around at the top of the stair;
The Raven was sweating – the dance made him woozy –
And his sight was obscured by how Sue tossed her hair.
Abandoning both (who was he to be choosey?)
He fled, flapping fleetly away from the pair.
The space was so small that without room to cruise, he
Alighted on top of a statuette where
It arose from the egg on the table – a doozy,
A carefully-glued-back-together affair.
The cobwebs were dense and the atmosphere boozy –
And more than a little familiar in there.
He bent his head sideways to look at the floozie
Whose head he had gripped, and was stunned by his stare!
It was Bush! Barbara Bush – and that was the news he
So shockingly cawed through the dust-laden air …

So many memories captured. Brought a smile to my face this morning. Thank you.

Good morning, all

I really feel like I'm truly done with the treatments. Finally. I felt great relief when the results of the CT scan were reported on Monday, but it only sank in after our conversation with the doctor yesterday. My next appointment is in two months which will make for a welcome return to a long practiced morning ritual, which I have sorely missed. I learned that it would take about three months to completely recover which helps me with my impatience issues by controlling expectations. I consider myself to be a very fortunate man.

French Roast, please, Tanya. And I'll stand for Cafe du Monde beignets for the house if you can arrange it. Pass me a couple of those please.
