Re: H. L. Mencken (or others) post of the day

I love poetry, especially when I'm in the depths, like now. Was searching for poetry for the service of my brother the sea captain who hated being on land. This, by Langston Hughes, took my breath away:

Sea Calm

How still,
How strangely still,
The water is today,
It is not good
For water
To be so still that way.

Another:

Why did no one say
That age would be so awful
And youth went too fast?

(I'm trying to remember from literature class, a haiku has 5 syllables, 7 syllables, 5 syllables?)

The following is an excerpt from Sam Ervin questioning of AG John Mitchell during the Watergate hearings:

[Q]Senator Ervin. “But isn’t it a rule of evidence that when a person refuses to produce evidence within his power to produce, that an inference may be drawn that the reason he does not produce it is because he knows it may be unfavorable to him? … It is a rule of logic, it seems to me.”

[A]AG John Mitchell, “I would agree with respect to the search for truth. But as I say, there is another factor involved here, and that has to do with the separation of powers.”

[Q] Senator Ervin, “I don’t believe there is anything in the Constitution that says the powers of the Presidency should be separated from truth.”

Timeless common sense.
