Thanks, Robbie. Sandy will be driving this afternoon. I’m still a little off balance but much better than it was earlier. I hope it’s nothing more than water in my ear which has happened before. But I’ll be paying attention.

Hello, friends.

I’m thinking of all of you on the west coast, and hope that some rain comes your way. DH and I talked to a friend who lives outside of San Fran. She couldn’t describe what the air looks like because she’s blind, but she can smell the smoke.

Hope the smoke doesn’t affect your DIL too much,Robbie.

And I hope that you feel better, cooter.

You too, Brick.

I was debating whether to resume manicures at the nail spa. As much as I’d like to do that, the common sense side of me is saying that it might be wise for me to put it off until the pandemic subsides, given the fact that the doctor has said that I’m “high risk.”

Birdz, every time I think of doing something such as that I ask myself if I think that is essential.

Often it's not.

That’s a good rule of thumb, Robbie, and that’s how I came to my decision not to get a manicure. I consider haircuts essential and I’ve gotten one since things opened up a bit. I suppose the necessity of haircuts is debatable.

I've gotten haircuts twice, now, after our governor lifted that restriction a couple of months ago.

I guess I think it's essential, given how awful I looked after about four months of no haircuts.

Hi, everybody....

Just dropping by quickly to check in.

Belle and Robbie, I'm sorry you're experiencing so much smoke. emoticon Birdz, I can't imagine being blind and knowing the fires must be nearby. It would be so frightening....

Brick, I hope the service went well and that you're feeling better.

In fact, I hope you are ALL feeling better! emoticon

The good news is that I've got my "to-do" list of things for Mom down from four pages to one page. Of course, those are the most time-consuming items. My own "to-do" list, of course, blossomed from one page to two pages. But I'm taking things as they come and deliberately not forcing myself to overdo. In fact, I'm heading for bed now, and it's not even 10:00 yet. I haven't had a nap today, so I'm due. emoticon

Take good care of yourselves, my favorite things! emoticon

55 degrees this morning, and air quality at 149, so I didn't walk around the house.

Later today, Phil will replace the panel the plumber cut out of the side of my house to fix the water leak.

I hope you're feeling better this morning, Brick, and that nothing is seriously wrong.

Lis, getting your to-do lists down from 5 pages to 3 is an accomplishment to celebrate. I hope you got lots of good sleep overnight.

Good morning, all, and thanks for all of the good thoughts. I’m feeling much better this morning. I think that the reason I felt so poorly was due to stress. The service helped to ease that greatly.

I hope your air quality begins to improve, Belle and Robbie. And I wish you a decent day, Cooter. And I hope the storm passes you without seriously affecting you.

We’re not going to go back to our projects until tomorrow. We’ll attend the funeral Mass at 1 today. I did get to see my nieces and nephews yesterday and even at a distance it was a comfort to be with them at this sad time.

The rest of you things, stay well.

Coffee, please, Tanya.

Good morning, all. We have 52F with lots of smoke, heading for 62F and the hope that rain may arrive tonight. Air quality here is 180.

Brick, I'm glad you're feeling better. Lis, your To Do List sounds huge, but I remember that was the case after my mother's death, too. I hope you're able to take care of yourself in all this.

As if being on lockdown from coronavirus wasn't enough, the need to stay inside and not breathe the outside air is just about more than I can stand. When it was just (just???) COVID I could, at least, walk Jackson through the neighborhood. Now I've greatly shortened his walks so that neither of us has to jeopardize our lungs.

I had to give my hands the day off from knitting yesterday. With nothing else to do, I had spent too much time knitting and my fingers rebelled. I hope I can get back to it today.

Geeze, what a gripe-filled start to the day. Sorry.

Coffee, please, Tanya.

Confined to the house, I'm watching my DVDs of season 1 of Picket Fences. Do you all remember Picket Fences. It's such a mixture of drama and comedy. Well, David E. Kelley. I think this was his first TV series. Yesterday, the cops caught the serial bather, who would break into people's houses when they were out and take a bath. Today is starting out more macabre (it was the Halloween episode). The scripts and actors are really good.

Season 1 obviously takes place in 1991 or 1992 in the small town of Rome, Wisconsin. The episode I just now was about euthanasia by a singing nun.

I'm ready for some sweet tea and some lunch.

I'm having to go to national weather sites for weather. I haven't been able to get local info on my phone....it just came up! It's 85 and sunny and that's about it.

Shadow loves her area rugs. She naps on them and plays with them like they were toys, and they are her toys. Cats are weird as a part of them, and many are further weird in their own ways. This one can be nutty at times....many times.......for sure!

DD is in bed sick, but so far no fever. She wasn't eating supper with me, so I found one center-cut pork chop in the freezer, thawed it out, seasoned it for the smoker, made some cheese grits and some black-eyed peas.

I've got a leftover chicken that Janet brought down Saturday and two eggs that need to be used since I have a fresh dozen in the egg container, so I'm thinking about chicken salad.

Re: The Rumpus Room II

My current pairs of jeans are getting old and thin. I need new ones before winter arrives. I like a brand called "Not Your Daughter's Jeans" and Macy's carries them. I went to the mall.

I parked in the first stall closest to the door. That was amazing. I went in Macy's and had to ask where that brand was (they've been moved). It took a while to find someone to ask. The company that makes these jeans thinks everyone has far longer legs than I have, so I need to find my size, then find a "P" on the label. Petite, I guess, although I'm not. I found one pair, but they had cuffed pantlegs, so I wanted to try them on to be sure that worked.

I walked over to a dressing room area which turned out to have a big sign in front of it: THIS DRESSING ROOM IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED. Hmmm. So I walked around looking for another dressing room, but the next one and the one after that all had the same signs. Finally I found an employee and asked her where there was an open dressing room. "There aren't any," she said. "You have to buy it, take it home to try it on, and bring it back if it doesn't fit." What?

"That's ridiculous," I said.

"Well, dear, that's how it is now."

"Sorry, darling," I replied, "but it's still ridiculous." I put the pants back on the rack.

I also needed some stuff from Target, which is at the complete other end of the mall. As I walked through I noted how few people were in the mall, and how many shops had gates pulled down over the entrances. Finally I got to Target and its gate was pulled down, too. Target's kaput? Whoa.

I think the mall is about dead.

Damn! Mom called again, all tearful, about the missing (“stolen”) dining room chairs. I tried to assure her that they’d turn up and that she might have misplaced them.

She bit my head off. Not even an acknowledgment of the groceries I ordered for her that arrived today.

I’m not thinking nice thoughts about her right now.

I'm having to tend to the stuff for the guy in the big, loud, truck that picks up my garbage can and automatically dumps it then sets my can back down. They are numbered and have a tag that is on the computers. I call for the county to get other stuff.

My legs and knees are absolutely killing me! I'm going to order from Domino's. I just can't stand up and cook anything. After spending 2-3 hours fooling with Microsoft on a damn password I'm having a !@#$ drink!

Aw, Birdz.... I'm SO sorry that you're having to deal with your mom's increasing dementia. You are doing your best, and you're being VERY helpful to her, even if she doesn't recognize it. I'm so sorry....

That sounds like a VERY frustrated shopping trip, Robbie. Our Target is still going strong, and I haven't heard anything about them being in trouble....

Brick, I'm glad the funeral Mass helped reduce your stress. I'm even more glad that you're feeling better.

Cooter, I hope you'll be able to get better information about Sally. I have friends in Foley, AL, on the dirty side of the storm. They're from Indiana, and they've never tried to ride out a storm before. I wish they'd just come home!

Belle, I remember promos for Picket Fences way back when, but I never saw it. I'm glad you're enjoying it. emoticon

I'm doing okay, Robbie. Slowly working through my lists. I had to replace my printer, and it refused to print after the first few trial prints. Brett and I have been trying for the past two nights to just add the new printer (which is EXACTLY the same as my old printer) joined at HP for the ink. So tonight I decided to be bold and talk to HP Instant Ink myself. And...after a half-hour phone call, it works! This is a MAJOR step forward for me, LOL.... emoticon
