I wouldn't be surprised if the ACLU volunteers to do just that.

I hope so. It'll be our tax dollars that he wins, but it will be worth it to compensate him for what was done to him in our name.

Ken Cuccinelli, rewriting Emma Lazarus's poem on the statue of liberty in an NPR "Morning Edition" interview today:

Rachel Martin: Would you also agree that Emma Lazarus's words etched on the State or Liberty, "Give me your tired, your poor," are also part of the American ethos?

Ken Kuccinelli: They certainly are. Give me your tired and your poor who can stand on their own two feet, and who will not become a public charge.

I wonder what older Republicans would have to say if we note that they've become a part of the Public Charge through their use of Social Security and Medicare. Sorry, folks, you've got to go....

Apparently Trump has figured out a way to significantly increase the white population ahead of the 2020 election.

(CNN) - Trump has asked aides if it's possible to buy Greenland, sources say

President Donald Trump has on multiple occasions brought up buying Greenland from the Danish government and the White House counsel's office has looked into the possibility, two sources told CNN on Thursday.

Trump's interest in buying Greenland was first reported on Thursday by The Wall Street Journal. The Journal reported that people familiar with the deliberations said the President has raised the issue during meetings and dinners, asking aides and listening seriously about the possibility and advantages of owning Greenland. He also asked his White House counsel to research the matter, according to two of the people.

Two of the people also told the Journal that Trump's aides were divided on the issue, with some praising it as solid economic strategy and others dismissing it as a passing fancy.

Regarding immigration, in a stab at researching services that could help Mom, I went to the website of Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, the social services organization that runs the group home my youngest brother lives in. CSS performs a wide variety of services, including adoption and homeless services. One of the services they provide is legal help for immigrants, whatever legal help they need to get or stay legal, including asylum requests. Note that this is help does not appear to include hiding people from ICE, just legal aid.

I imagine trump and his cohorts would disapprove of their activities.

Re: Immigration and Asylum (other than DACA)

I’ve sometimes wondered if I’d want to emigrate, just because . . . A husband I dearly love who would never hear of it, and family ties, would keep me from doing it, but that didn’t stop me from looking up what the requirements to be accepted as an immigrant in some countries (Argentina, Chile, Australia, Canada and the UK, for instance). Nearly all of them required, at least for retirees, some proof of financial self sufficiency.

I’m not particularly bothered about us requiring the same for people who want to come here. There is, however, the possibility of being sponsored by a US citizen or legal resident, who agrees, via contract, to assume responsibility for the immigrant being sponsored, so that they don’t become a burden on the state. My MIL, an immigrant from Germany in the ‘20s, came here at age 18 and was sponsored by her uncle, who was already here and established. She went on to work as a cook for some wealthy families (including composer George Gershwin) in the NYC area. Eventually, she became a US citizen. I found her citizenship documents via ancestry.com.

Unfortunately, most of the migrants seeking asylum at the southern border are fleeing horrific conditions. Their very survival depends on their getting in. I would have a very difficult time looking at them and demanding that they be able to prove their worth. For many others, they're trying to get in because they WANT to work. That includes those who have overstayed their visas. But then you have the same Trumpians who are shrill in screeching "welfare burdens!" at the first group, whining "they're taking our jobs!" at the second group. They simply hate immigration and immigrants, and they'll use whatever excuse is convenient at the time....

And thus the Lord spake:

Go ye out unto the lands.
Seek out the strangers.
Bring forth those suffering from illness,
For they bear the mark of Satan.
Gather the little children from their hospital beds
And expel them from the land,
That they might die away from our blessed shores.
Do this in My name.

I have been looking and looking for these verses in my Bible and just can't find them....

Julia Ainsley is reporting tonight on MSNBC that the Inspector General for the Department of Homeland Security found internal documents that prove the Trump Administration planned to separate far, far more children from their parents than they eventually did. Their plans were to take 26,000 children from their parents -- and they had NO plans for tracking or reuniting the children with their parents.
