Re: The Middle East

The Iran News Agency has just reported that a SECOND volley of missiles has just been deployed. Iran has also launched its entire Air Force. Iranian TV is reporting 30 US soldiers dead. (They couldn't POSSIBLY know that yet.) Iran says that if the US military takes any action against the missiles or the Air Force, it will launch attacks against ALL US military installations throughout the region.

Ayatolla Khameni is reportedly personally overseeing these launchings and has directed where they should attack.

It's 4 AM in Iran, and the reporter says the whole country is awake with people calling each other. People in major cities are all fleeing to the countryside, trying to escape US attacks.

All via MSNBC live reporting from the region.

Here it comes, Robbie....

Iran says if there is ANY retaliation from the two rounds of attacks on US basis in Iraq, Iran will target ALL US bases in the region.

The first, immediate targets:

1. Dubai, because US planes are reported to take off from Dubai. "We will destroy that tourism resort."

2. Haifa, Israel. Soldiers that were trained by the assassinated Iraqi leader are all over Israel, prepared to take out all kinds of attacks on Israelis.

Hezbollah, in Lebanon, is awaiting orders to attack anywhere Iran orders in Iraq.

Iranian TV is claiming to have "decimated" Al-Asad Airbase.

Iranian officials are all putting up pictures of the Iranian flag on their social media sites, signifying they are at war. Radio stations are all playing battle music.

(US Department of Defense) - DOD Statement on Iranian Ballistic Missile Attacks in Iraq

Statement from Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs Jonathan Hoffman:

At approximately 5:30 p.m. (EST) on January 7, Iran launched more than a dozen ballistic missiles against U.S. military and coalition forces in Iraq. It is clear that these missiles were launched from Iran and targeted at least two Iraqi military bases hosting U.S. military and coalition personnel at Al-Assad and Irbil.

We are working on initial battle damage assessments.

In recent days and in response to Iranian threats and actions, the Department of Defense has taken all appropriate measures to safeguard our personnel and partners. These bases have been on high alert due to indications that the Iranian regime planned to attack our forces and interests in the region.

As we evaluate the situation and our response, we will take all necessary measures to protect and defend U.S. personnel, partners, and allies in the region.

Due to the dynamic nature of the situation, we will continue to provide updates as they become available.

Note: Trump has been silent on Twitter since six hours ago -- and the last tweet before that was 12 hours before that.

I wonder if Donnie wet his pants and fried his phone.

The whole world's had an opening to make trouble with Trump in office. Who knows, while this crisis is going on, of the vulnerabilities behind the scenes. Most competent people have been purged from government. I long for the days of smart and cool heads like Kerry, Hilary, Obama and the military generals who have abandoned this administration.

I guess it's just the brilliant, battle hardened Jared and Ivanka guiding things now. Where are my cyanide pills?

I fear that he wants this war, for his own selfish reasons. He can go into a re-election campaign as a wartime president, and then accuse his critics, and even those of us who will vote against him, of treason.

And we're going to get the patriotic posturing, the with-us-or-against-us bullshit that means all thinking people will be called unpatriotic.

We've all seen this movie.

Donald J. Trump
@realdonaldtrump

All is well! Missilies launched from Iran at two
military bases located in Iraq. Assessment of
casualties & damages taking place now. So far,
so good! We have the most powerful and well
equipped military anywhere in the world, by
far! I will be making a statement tomorrow
morning.

I thought that I might have this figured out given the information at hand following the first attack. That's all out the window now. I have no idea what the ragheads are thinking. They are inviting Trump to hit back. Maybe they are going to try to start a region-wide escalated conflict.

There are Trump supporters calling for nuking Teheran if they do anything else. That's insane, which goes along with their idiot-in-chief.

Re: The Middle East

I believe I heard that the Iranians THREATENED Trump that if he struck back, the Iranians would retaliate with something worse.

I read a couple of articles this morning that said that the Iranian missiles actually caused very little damage to US facilities. So while the Iranian government told its people that it had killed 30 American soldiers and "flattened" a base, in fact, it hadn't. So the allowed Iranians to claim it had concluded its retribution for the US attack, while allowing Trump the ability to STOP this right now.

The Iranians look like the adults in the room. At 11 AM Eastern, Trump will give a speech to tell us whether he will work with the adults in the room.

Re: The Middle East

If it was ever our stated aim to win the hearts and minds of the Iranian people, we, as a country have just put the lie to that position. Donald Trump has made it far more difficult to achieve what many right minded people believe to be a worthwhile goal.

When I hear the outrage voiced about Trump’s threat to attack cultural centers and the responding Trumpist rationale that they(the Iranians) are allowed to do anything they want to us and the fact that we should play by the rules of war is just wrong. His first position was to say to hell with that and his supporters approve. What he was first advocating for was to lower ourselves to their level. He has since walked that back. But the Trump supporters whom I know are fine with turning the region to glass and support the President in his view that we shouldn’t be constrained by any rules. The very idea of Rules of War is incomprehensible to many of his supporters. Their self justification is that it isn’t fair and is just one more way in which we have been victimized by the weakness and ineptitude of previous administrations and evil, America hating Democrats. Thank God Donald Trump is here to make things right. *sarcasm*
