I never can keep it straight which road Frost actually traveled. I need to learn the line that makes it clear.

Does anyone understand that poem?

Trivia Daily yesterday: Ear is correct.

What is the follow-up to "To Kill a Mockingbird"?

Go Set a Watchman
Where the Crawdads Sing
One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest
Catcher in the Rye

Got it.

He didn't take the beaten path that everyone else takes. He went the unusual direction, and that made all the difference.

In essence, take the risk and take the life path that is different from everyone around you. It will make your life richer.

Go Set a Watchman

My friend loves both books and talks about them all the time.

That's what I thought it meant, Lis, but a woman I know tried to convince me that that was not the meaning at all. I never did understand her reasoning.

Here are two counter-interpretations of "The Road Not Taken." (Counter to the usual interpretation.)

Most of the time, "The Road Not Taken" is read as an ode to individualism and going your own way…. But we've been getting it wrong this whole time. Robert Frost's poem doesn't actually say anything about whether it's better to go with the crowd or head off on your own. Although he says that his choice of path "made all the difference," he doesn't say if that difference was good or bad. He even seems to be saying it ironically, since the speaker doesn't know how different his life would have been on the other path. In fact, if you look closely, he's not even convinced that the one path is really less traveled than the other. In the stanzas preceding the oft-quoted final one, Frost says about the paths that previous pedestrians "Had worn them really about the same / And both that morning equally lay / In leaves no step had trodden black."

Most scholars interpret the poem as a meditation on the tendency for a man to look back on all his choices as momentous ones that brought him to his standing today, though in truth, each choice was not momentous nor an act of courage, at the time the choice was made.

Brain Candy: Tricky math question.

I got it wrong because I read it carelessly, but if I had read it carefully, I would have got it wrong, too, according to their answer. Their answer depended on changing the value of one of the items before the last question. Maybe someone can explain it to me.

I missed it, too.

Each apple = 10

For the berries, each berry in the group = 1

Each coconut = 1

In the next-to-last line, there are two coconuts (1 point each)

In the last line, there is only one coconut (1 point), 1 apple (10 points), and only THREE berries in the group (3 points -- that is what I missed), for a total of 14.

I missed the number of coconuts, and when I went back and counted them to do it again, I missed the number of berries.

Brain Candy: Who sings '70s love songs?

4/13

I had not heard of half of the songs or half of the singers. And I was listening to music in the '70s. Where did these people I never heard of come from?

If you can't see the pictures, you can get some of them from the descriptions of what they did.
