Hola!

It's 58 and cloudy but should be sunny in the afternoon. The forecast looks good all week but with rain on the weekend.

My knees are not happy this morning. The weatherman can kiss my grits!! I changed up my schedule for my pain pills a few days ago, and I think that it's helping some. Hopefully, they will allow me to tend to a few things today. I'll just roll with the punches.

I want a damn steak and I don't feel like doing that kind of chewing right now. The jaw feels a little better this morning. I have a followup next Monday. I'm just being careful.

Good morning, all. We have 39F and mostly clear skies, with the nearly-risen sun throwing red streaks across the sky. We're supposed to get to 60F this afternoon, but we're supposed to get rain along with it.

I should make a trip to WinCo today for basic stuff. I wonder if I will...

Coffee, please, Tanya.

What is WinCo? Another one of those good stores that I don't have access to?

Could be, Cooter. It may be confined to the West Coast. It's an employee-owned grocery chain whose prices are far better than those of standard supermarkets, although in some instances the quality is also less. For example, I don't buy fresh produce or meat there because they're of a lower grade, but anything that comes in a package from a name producer is the same anywhere.

Today, for example, I'm going for Soft Soap, body wash, TP, and wine.

My grocery store sets everything at cost. Ten percent is added at checkout, and they have the very best meat in town. That's where I got the salmon rub. Have you tried it on chicken yet?

Your grocery store sounds like a winner!

No, I haven't tried the salmon rub on chicken yet because I almost never eat a piece of chicken big enough to use a rub on it.

I've used it on all sorts of different kinds of fish, though, and it's wonderful on all of them!

46 degrees and raining. It was sprinkling slightly when I went out this morning.

Cleanwater is coming to work on my water system some more today. My water looks clean, but Jonathan (the Cleanwater man) put the cover on the filter so tight that Phil (my maintenance man, without whom I could not get through life) can't get it off. Someday I'm going to make a count of the people I'm dependent on. I'm putting it off because it's too horrifying to contemplate.

Talking of the people I'm dependent on, the love of my life has been frisky this morning, trying to walk on my kindle, and when I kept her off that, trying to tie down my hand so I couldn't turn the pages. I brushed her for a long while, and told her that that was all she was getting this morning; and every time afterward that she jumped up on my lap, I shoved her off the chair. She's supposed to know from that brushing that I love her beyond reason and she needs to let me read.

Cooter, you can't know how much I empathize with you.

Good morning, all. We have 45F and rain, which is supposed to back off somewhat this afternoon and warm up to 55F.

I didn't make it to WinCo yesterday. I went to the mall in search of nicer clothes than I have so I can go to the service for Lynne's mother in a couple of weeks. The mall is nearly empty of people, and there are lots of closed stores. I did find some decent slacks and I'll have to content myself with whatever tops I already have. I can't find anything else I like in the shops. I wonder what's going to become of malls.

I hope the guy from Cleanwater can get the cover off, Belle, and that your water really is clean.

Coffee, please, Tanya.

Guten Morgen!

Coffee, Tanya.

It's 50 and sunny today and should reach 60 if the clouds stay away.

Yesterday was kind of a tough day. DD had to go to Wally World to get a couple of things that she wanted for meals along with black olives and mushrooms that I had on the board. I came up with a couple of more things that I would like to have and save me a trip. She had my credit card so she came home with I don't want to know how much she [sign in to see URL]. Retail therapy. It's all going to be used and I was actually glad to see some of the Latino and Asian stuff.

Right now I'm not sure as to what I'll do today. I ordered myself some warm houseshoes that won't be tight at all on my feet. I had bought some stuff last year that I liked a lot but wound up with a painful corn on one of my big toes. I'm just now getting it to not bother me, but I'm not going to wear some of those houseshoes anymore.

Shadow comes in early, announces her presence and then curls up. She will let me know when it's time to get up. I have a couple of pills that I have to take before eating and she patrols the sink counter while I'm coming to. She loves to rub the toothbrush holder. Then she gets on the work table in the laundry room while I fix my coffee and her morning canned food breakfast. She's a purring girl. My former Buddy who was my buddy used to get on my computer keyboard when he wanted attention, and he was fascinated with the printer, wanting to get in and check it out when I was using [sign in to see URL]. Belle can obviously [sign in to see URL].

Isabella likes to sit on my keyboard too. I chase her off, and she curls up on the telephone next to the computer.

Re: The Rumpus Room

I posted the following on Penn DOT’s Facebook page, for all the world to see:

I wasn’t going to post this, but when faced with an intransigent bureaucracy, but Penn DOT deserves to have the way it does business made public.

Penn DOT has asked for medical information from Mom’s doctor about her fitness to drive, given her advanced age (97). Her doctor has requested that she undergo a driver fitness evaluation at a rehab center. Because she is hard of hearing, I helped secure an appointment. The earliest appointment I could get was for April 10. The Penn DOT deadline for sending in the paperwork is March 31.

I phoned Penn DOT last Friday to request an extension but was refused, because deadlines are set “electronically” and cannot be changed. So I found a “contact us” page where I could submit an email message. I did that last Friday.

Today I got what I can’t say was a response. They blew me off by referring me back to the medical unit that refused my request in the first place! This is an outrage!
I don’t know if Mom is fit to drive, but for now she doesn’t want to give up her driver’s license, and I figure that if she’s truly not fit to drive, I’ll let the professionals at the rehab hospital tell her. I’m not qualified to make that assessment.

This is not good, Birdz. Is there a state agency you can contact that could compel Penn DOT to extend the deadline?

I don’t know, Belle. I sent yet another message to Penn DOT and told them that their reply was non responsive because they referred me back to the office that refused my request in the first place (phone number only, they don’t seem to do emails, at least not with the public). I also pointed out to them that in their response, they told me that they don’t disclose confidential medical information, but that I was not requesting any, just a time extension.

I don’t know what else to do. I doubt that the PA governor’s office will have anything to do with me, since I’m not a PA resident.

Geez, Birdz.... You're TRYING to be proactive. You're TRYING to preserve the safety of your mom and the rest of the motoring public. Unbelievable.... emoticon

Hooray for Isabella and Shadow. What wonderful companions!

Sorry to hear your mall is dying, too, Robbie. We have two (never understood how), but one is now nearly dead and the other is somehow hanging in there (though they've changed to all outdoor entrances, so there is no longer a true interior "mall").

Met a friend for lunch and had the most WONDERFUL goulash and garlic bread. Can't find THAT just anywhere! Had to drive to the UPS store, to the pharmacy, to McDonald's to pick up lunch for Mom, to the dentist for a dreaded cleaning.... We have bright sunshine with not a cloud in the sky and a very warm sun, so you get so cozy driving.... And then you get out of the cold, and the 43-degree temperature smacks you -- and then laughs for good measure. Geez....

Birdz, can you look on Penn's state government website and see an ombudsman? If so, that might be worth a try.

We had a nice mall, but when Walmart built a huge new one it died little by little. Ole Miss bought about half of it for needed space, Malco kept their part there and opened a big new on the other side of town. People may still walk in it, I don't know.

Aha! There was a lawsuit involving zoning and stuff and I got associated because I had gotten an affirmed from our Supreme Court in a similar zoning case a couple of years before. We were supposed to have a meeting over beers at the other lawyer's house and his clients, but I don't drink when I'm on the clock, so I waited until we were done.

There was a Penny's at the other end of the mall from Walmart but they finally bit the dust last year. There's a ton of stuff where the new Walmart is.
