I've been looking at the Indianapolis news sites (because we don't have local sites), and the only information I can find is that we had 6.5" by 8:30 last night -- and it snowed for many hours after that. I would guess maybe 8" total. But the weight of the heavy snow is collapsing in on itself, so it's shrinking. Still getting a lot of reports of slideoffs in the city and impassable roads out in the county. (When they're not plowed or they're drifted, you have no idea where the road is.)

Yeah.... I looked on an Indiana weather site, and a whole lot of people had stuck rulers in the snow to show their amounts. There were several 11-12" amounts about an hour east of us and 8" amounts closer to us. But you never know if they put it in the grass rather than a sidewalk (which will look like more snow), and you never know what is in a drift....

How frustrating, Belle! I recently realized that the way things are is really tearing me up and I need to find constructive ways to cope. It’s challenging. So far, it’s prayer for serenity and for things to change, constantly reminding myself that I can only do so much (which sometimes isn’t much), and continuing to live, take care of things around me, and enjoying my family and friends.

It’s 32F and we have about 5” so far, with more on the way. I posted on FB a picture of the statue of St. Francis of Assisi in my back yard, wearing a “snow shawl.” LOL

How I got the statue is a funny story. Many years ago, when my oldest niece was about to get her first communion, I was visiting Mom. I went with Mom to a store that sold religious stuff, so she could look for a first communion gift for her granddaughter. I found myself admiring a statue of St. Francis of Assisi, a saint I admire a lot for his humility, his rejection of wealth and his position that people have a duty to protect and enjoy nature as both the stewards of God's creation.

Guess what I got for Christmas. It’s now in my back yard. emoticon

Thanks for the birthday wishes, Lis! It’s the big seven-oh this time. I won’t be going out because of the weather.

Happy birthday, Birdz!

Thank goodness it was the statue of St. Francis you admired. I don't know whether there are any villain saints (surely there are some). You wouldn't want one of those in your back yard.

Awwwwwww.... The Prayer of St. Francis was one of my very favorite hymns at mass. "Make me a channel of your peace...."

I've adopted the same constructive ways of coping that you have, Birdz, looking for little ways you can make your world better.

I keep remembering the story of the child throwing the starfish back into the sea, noting that it made all the difference to THAT one. If we can each do something to help one person or one family to get through tough times, it makes a difference to THAT one....

I just love what you do with the organization that helps with food, Birdz. And the hats and scarves that Robbie knits for the organization that provides them to those who need them. It makes a difference to THAT one -- and that makes the world a better place.

I was sure it was going to be a good game. The Eagles have just been playing really well. When NO played them before the Eagles couldn't even get off the bus right.

Ahhhh, so many random thoughts. And so few words.

I guess i will begin by requesting another cup of strong, black, Amrtican style coffee, please Maybe with a good home made apple fritter for dunking purposes.

Now for the morning weather report. Currently it is 6*C (roughly 42* F), working toward an afternoon high of of 10*C. Sunny with nary a cloud in the sky. Ligh breeze from the NE. Nice January Day.

Belle, you mentioned your love of snow. I believe Lis, Birdz and others will agree with the fact that there was much to love the iowa farm where Becky and i spent 27 years living, working and raising our three children. But winter weather, including three months of blowing snow was definately NOT inckuded in that love affair.

Lis, i share with you a love affair of The Prayer of St Francis. While apocryphally attributed to San Francesco d’ Assisi, the prayer was most likely penned by a 19th century French journalist. None the less it is both incredibly beautiful, and a rock solid foundation upon which wve can each build our lives.. At age 18 i ran away from the Catholic Church as fast as my two legs could carry meg. However the Prayer of St Francis was one of the two texts i took with me. The other was the Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount. It too provided me a foundation upon which to build my life.

Happy Birthday Birdz.

Hoping this finds everyone in good health and spirits. Have a great day.

Happy belated b-day, Birdz!

It's minus 3 here in Middle-of-the-Friggin'-Woods. Supposed to get just north of 15 above this afternoon, but I think it's a bit premature to be breaking out the shorts and t-shirts.

The dog is screaming like a banshee. I've got no idea what's going on in her little head today.

Coffee time! Good morning to everyone that's up!

Re: The Rumpus Room

39 degrees and calm and dry. It was 41 when I walked around the house this morning and reveled in the stars.

I'm watching season 1 of Friday Night Lights on DVD. It is really good. The script is so good. These football-crazed people are as articulate as the politics-crazed people on West Wing. And of course it's a small town in Texas, so I understand the culture. The fictional characters are counterparts to real characters I have known. There was a time when football was the bane of my existence. So why would you spend time and money on watching a fictional depiction? I hear you ask. It's got to be a quirk, but for some quirky reason, football dramas gratify my dramatic soul.

I drink them in gulps: Remember the Titans, Radio. Maybe because they're not really about football. They're about power struggles and politics among the grownups in the culture. They're about racism. They're about justice and injustice. And all of the scripts are good.

Good morning, all. We have 33F and clear skies with no wind, heading for a high of 50F and sunshine. Kudo and I are enjoying it as long as we can.

Nothing in particular on my agenda today. Knitting, probably.

Coffee, please, Tanya.
