Birdz, please accept my condolences on the loss of your brother. My heart really goes out to you, as I lost my favorite brother six years ago this week. (Yes, I know we're not supposed to have "favorites," but that's the way it was.)

Losing a sibling is hard. Be gentle with yourself as you grieve. It takes time.

I know it will.... Made it through two more meetings this afternoon, but it is definitely stiffening up. I've got two appointments for Mom and Meals on Wheels tomorrow. I'll see how it is when I get up in the morning, and if it's no better, see if they can get me in in the late afternoon.

Lis, can't someone else deal with your mom's appointments and Meals on Wheels? Maybe you should make some calls this evening and not wait until morning to figure things out? *stern look*

Well, the surgeon's office is closed until tomorrow.... And I really don't trust anyone else to do anything with it, as complicated as it is. When I broke it four years ago, the best specialist in our city said he wouldn't touch it -- and sent me down to Indy, to the surgeon they say is the best specialist in the state. It's him I really need to see. I'll see how the icing goes tonight, and if it's seriously no better, I promise I'll call in the morning.

Mom HAS to go for her bloodwork and blood pressure check in the morning. That's a non-negotiable. (I think her BP was 171/115 last Friday and they want a recheck since adjusting her meds.) I could get an emergency substitute for Meals on Wheels if necessary, but I really hate to do that. We're supposed to have snow in the morning, and we have SO many older people delivering. I'd rather not have them out in it. Mom's hair appointment in the afternoon could be cancelled. I have no doubt she would support that, especially if they can fit me in for an appointment in Indy.

Oh, my, Lis! You have so much on your plate!

Well, Allan’s friend who has seen him through so much called me today to tell me that she was going through his things, but did not find the quilt that I made him when he began chemo. Had told her that i wanted her to have it, or if she didn’t want it, to hang on to it to use when she took care of other sick church members. Theft of hand made quilts is an issue, and there are even “lost and found” web pages for it. It’s not a fancy quilt, actually quite simple, but I’m not happy.

Ramondo, dear, could I have a cab franc?

Double espresso and a hard roll and cheese please.

10*C (50 or so F), partial cloud cover. Brisk bereeze (15 to 20 kmh) out of the NE. I believe it would be a good day to take my grand daughters after i get out of class and go fly afly a kite. Ahh! Flying kites on the Piazza Unita d’Italia. Brings back memories of a boyhood of long ago.

Birdz, i continue ti feel for you. It seems as though one issue follows another. But it too shall pass. As time can be the most comforting cure to both our physical and emotional ailments. Gawd bless you.

Everyone have a great weekend.

Hawk, I've been listening to Andrea Bocelli lately as he sings with Ed Sheeran. I assume his name, like yours, is pronounced Awn-DRAY-uh.

Is that close?

EDIT: Here is the song I've been listening to:
[url][sign in to see URL]

I have long thought the song is beautiful but the lyrics in English are sloppy. I've joked about sending them to the Lyrics Rewrite Desk, if only there were one.

Then along came this duet. I think whoever wrote the Italian version got it right. He or she captured the sentiment and expressed it far better than Ed Sheeran did in the original. Sorry, Ed, but the Italians know musica.

Robbie, the Italian pronounciation you provided is pretty much spot on. Andrea is a time honored male given name in ItaIan. But largely a female given name in the English speaking world.

You raise an interesting point about how lyrics dont always match the music. As well as how the jyrics in one language will fit netter than the lyricsin another language. In that rehard, i may be prefudiced. But in my view Italian is a nuc more musical language than English. ,And while we Italians can screw up many things there are a few things we do well — music, wine, cuisine, and high performance automobiles among them. ;-)

Guten Morgen!

Coffee, Tanya.

It's 43 and the rain has just past. We're looking at a low tonight of 28 with a freeze warning.

I've got to figure out what to have for weekend eats. I may make some chicken soup since it's going to be cold.

John Ciardi said he had a hard time translating "Inferno" into English poetry because everything in Italian rhymes with everything else, and that's not the case in English.

I took Italian in college, but didn't get past the elementary stage so I don't really read or speak it; but I've spent a large part of my life reading Italian librettos with English in the facing column while listening to operas.

Damme la mano! the statue of the Commendatore demanded.

Eccola! Don Giovanni said boldly. But when he had done so, he felt cold all over from the statue's freezing grip, and the floor opened beneath the Don and the fires of hell engulfed him while he cried in aguish, Ahhhh! (That's the same word in English and Italian.)

Good morning, all. We have 38F and light rain, which should increase to 47F and more rain.

I've finished knitting one hat and have started two more, as well as a scarf. This appears to be a perfect day to tend to my own knitting.

Coffee, please, Tanya.

Good morning. There's snow on the grass and the rooftops this morning. The prediction of 1-3" for Tuesday has been dropped to a prediction of 1".

Brett took Mom to her appointment this morning. Then I got a call that my Meals on Wheels partner is sick, so the director got replacements for both of us. emoticon

I did as requested and called the surgeon's office. He is booked solid until JANUARY! Yeah, he is the best specialist in Indiana. So they're trying to figure out who to send me to instead and will call back....

I'm glad others are doing the driving today, and I'm gladder that you called the surgeon's office. I hope they can find someone else to refer you to very quickly.

Even better. This surgeon is absolutely the best.

I broke my shoulder on a Thursday afternoon. No one in the hospital would touch it. They said I would have to make an appointment with the local specialist the next morning. So I saw him Friday morning. He took one look at the x-rays and said HE wouldn't touch it -- and made a referral to the state specialist in Indy. Of course, he was booked solid for weeks. But he CREATED an appointment at 7:45 that next Monday morning. And then he CREATED an opening between his scheduled surgeries that next day to do mine.

So his office just called back. They're CREATING another 7:45 appointment Monday morning for me. This guy is just amazing....

Wonderful, Lis! He reminds me of my podiatrist, who was always there for me, and made sure I didn’t have to get cooped up in a rehab center for six weeks as the rehab center wanted to do (Medicare $$?).

Speaking of feet, since it’s raining off and on, I may not pick up my orthotics till Monday. I figure I should stay off the road when driving conditions are not optimal, if I really don’t have to go out.

Coffee, please.

Yes, my surgeon is wonderful. emoticon I'm so glad your podiatrist is so good to you, too, Birdz!

I concur about going out on the roads. It just started snowing again. Not enough to stick; just enough to let us know winter is here....

The group home where my youngest brother lives just called. Mark is taking Allan’s death very hard and wanted to talk to family. With his speech impediment, talking with him is very hard.

I feel like I’m running out of strength. It’s hard enough to deal with my own pain, but realizing how hard Mark is taking this just breaks my heart further. I just want to crawl into a hole and not come out for a while.
