Re: The Rumpus Room

Sorry about the pain, Cooter.

And thanks for the mammogram reminder, Lis. I’ll add that to my to-do list. I’m in the process of rescheduling all the appointments not related to the foot that I canceled during my illness. I saw the dentist Thursday, and i still need to see the ophthalmologist and the hair stylist.

I feel stronger. When I first came home from rehab, I had to sit down at the kitchen table to cut up salad fixins. Same for brushing my teeth. Now I can do both tasks standing. I still feel a bit unsteady walking, but I think that’s because I have the therapeutic sandal on one foot and a shoe on the other.

Yes I am, Robbie! I made a solo run to the supermarket Wednesday (but that wore me out) and drove myself to the dentist Thursday. Next Tuesday I resume my volunteer work with the Mennonite sewing circle.

I think today I’ll do laundry and a little cleaning.

50 degrees, sunny, and calm.

Thanks, Robbie. I've been taking a holiday from reality, watching "The West Wing." I'm about to finish Season 3. (There are seven seasons.)

I've been tuning in to the Rumpus Room, from time to time, to make sure Michael didn't wipe out Sandy and Brick, and to find out how everyone else is doing, including Kudo and Shadow. You all are still on my mind.

Oh, good, I'm glad we haven't lost you completely, Belle.

I have all seven seasons of The West Wing, so I can understand the desire to binge.

Thanks for the kind thoughts, Belle. It’s good to see you. I take an occasional break from reality too, so I can definitely relate.

Good morning, all. Today was our first sub 60 degree morning temperature, lovely weather for a walk in the woods. It was a great start to the day.

Michele brought her dogs over for a visit. She lives in an apartment so she brings them over from time to time and they run in the adjoining yards. They’re chiweenies, tiny things. The yards are like a football field to them. They get a workout and a drink and return home for a nap. Shiva sometimes joins them, but she and I worked out after my walk and she was sprawled on her bed, so no socializing today.

Cooter, I hope you’ve gotten some relief from the pain.

West Wing helped get me through the Bush years. I always showed several episodes to my AP Government kids to illustrate concepts we had talked about in class. From Season 3, I always showed "Isaac and Ishmael" during the unit on Civil Liberties and Civil Rights, and the "Documentary Special" during the unit on the Executive Branch.

Darn, I miss that show! I need to get out my DVDs (Santa brought me the whole series one year). Gotta find time to watch them!

We'd sure hate to lose The Belle Of The Ball.

It's still a tough day, but it beats the hell out of yesterday! About all of this week has been tough. I figured it had been overdoing it on the stationary bike, but if that's the case it sure has lasted a long time.

I pulled some ribeyes out of the freezer. DD is going to get to prep and cook them along with some fresh green beans. I've got potatoes ready for the oven.

Robbie, up until now there has been no mention of it but I’m sure there are support groups in the program. When I was doing the treatments my doctor’s assistant suggested that I consider speaking to others who were doing the treatments at the same time, but I never pursued it.

There is an informal graduation from the Treatment Support program to the Survivorship program. I’m glad that both of them are available.

I had never heard of either of them before your discussion here, Brick. I'm so grateful they're available, too.

I'm glad today is better for you, Cooter. Your dinner sounds fantastic!

Today I'm buried in MLK's Letter from Birmingham Jail. After what has happened over the last few years and the current assault with voter suppression, it brings a whole new perspective.

Morning, Rumpions. I'm glad to be up after not getting much sleep last night. I just hate it when I get a thought in my mind and can't get rid of it so that I can get to sleep, don't you? I can't decide what to get my brother-in-law for his birthday next month. He reads, but I have no idea what he has has read and what he hasn't read (I've only known him for two years). He's a Gospel minister. The first book I ever gave him (on their engagement) was "The Diaries of Adam and Eve." Have you all read that? Mark Twain. The second book I gave him was "Screwtape Letters." He had read it, but he lost his copy. Maybe I'll give him "The Devil's Dictionary." Here is one entry:

Christian, n. One who believes that the New Testament is a divinely inspired book admirably suited to the spiritual needs of his neighbor. One who follows the teachings of Christ in so far as they are not inconsistent with a life of sin."

Do you think he would like that?

Awright! You did it, Lis! I ordered the speeches and letters of MLK for my brother-in-law. He will get lots of good sermons out of those. (He's a love-thy-brother-as-thyself Christian.)

Good morning, all. It's 43F with clear skies, heading for a high of 62F.

This is laundry day and I got the washing machine started without remembering to throw in the towels (sounds like a gesture of quitting). I added them even though it was about halfway through the wash cycle. Good enough.

Today the Seahawks play the Raiders in London, and the game is at 10:00 AM West Coast time. That means I'll miss about a half-hour for Kudo's 11:00 walk. Let me talk with the scheduler.

Coffee, please, Tanya.

Ohhhhh, your book choice sounds wonderful, Belle! Hope he'll enjoy that!

Glad to hear laundry is underway, though sorry to hear you'll miss part of your game, Robbie. Managed to get the laundry through, dishes done, and everything put away yesterday. emoticon

DETERMINED to get Chapter 5 out the door today. Only have one small section to go. Maybe I can get it done before noon? emoticon

Talladega is up today, Cooter. Will you be watching? 1:00 your time on NBC.

Guten Morgen!

Coffee, Tanya.

It's 73 and should get a little higher with rain getting here shortly. As usual, I suspect the weather is affecting my legs. I can get around, but that's about it. I just took my morning pain pill, so hopefully things will improve some anyway.

I'm not sure that I'm in race mode today, Lis. I'll turn it on when it starts and see.

Feel better, Cooter.

52F and cloudy here. Some of the local artisans are sponsoring a studio artisans’ tour this weekend. I’ve bought yarn from a lady who hand dyes wool yarn, beautiful colors! I think I’ll stay away this time since I have an over abundance of yarn in my stash.

I’ve noticed some small progress in myself. When I first got home, I had to sit down while I brushed my teeth for the required two minutes. Now I can stand. Also, this morning, I was able to move the birds’ cages this morning from the dining room, where they stay at night and where I can make the room dark, to the family room, which is lighter and brighter. And then feed them. I think they were bemused that DH wasn’t doing it. ,

Birdz, that sounds like a lot of progress! That must feel good!

I'm watching the Seahawks vs Raiders game, coming to a TV near me from London (the game is from London, not the TV). It started at 10:00 AM my time. Kudo decided she wanted her 11:00 walk at 10:45, and we didn't get back until 11:15. From the score, it appears I didn't miss anything vital. Good deal.

Holding good thoughts for Cooter's legs giving some relief.
