Re: Musings

The United States’ aim to be a moral exemplar in the world community has been eroding for decades. Preemptive war, the push to legitimize torturous interrogation techniques are just two steps in the downward spiral. There are countless more examples being put into play every day.

The attitude that the end justifies the means allows an entire segment of our society to rationalize their complicity with an amoral slug, ironically because he will be the instrument with which they can reclaim the moral authority by stacking the Court with those who will insure that we are a God fearing country.

When trump won the election, I figured that God was pissed off at us over something.

There is nothing we could have possibly done collectively to "deserve" having Trump unleashed on us.

I mean, couldn't God direct lightning a little more accurately?

Re: Musings

I really don't know how to get my equilibrium back. The Trump/Putin press conference, in which Trump gave Putin everything he wanted with a cherry on top, has seriously knocked me for a loop. My tummy has been upset all day.

In the past few days Trump has insulted our NATO partners, accused Angela Merkel of being in Russia's grasp because Germany buys fuel from Russia, insulted British PM Theresa May by claiming she's doing a bad job of Brexit and endorsing her political opponent, kept the Queen waiting in the sun for 15 minutes before deigning to show up, then walking in front of her as they reviewed some of her troops, demanded NATO members contribute a greater percentage of their GNP to their countries' defense, then claimed he has improved NATO. Anyone else looking at this could easily conclude Trump is trying to break up the Western Alliance.

While we were still absorbing all that, then Trump met one-on-one with Vladimir Putin and seemingly gave Putin everything he might have wanted, including rebuffing his own intelligence officials. Trump, in refusing to believe the FBI's assessment of Russian attacks on our election system in favor of Putin's denials, essentially invited Putin to continue doing it.

I really don't know what is stable ground any longer.

Your stable ground is with MOST Americans. We are firmly grounded in the truth and the facts, and that is what gives us our equilibrium because they don't change.

This has redoubled my conviction to get out there and help my congressional candidates. Heaven knows it's a losing effort in Indiana when it comes to the House, but my Senator just MIGHT be able to win. It's all I can do....

So now Trump is acknowledging Russian interference in the 2018 run up to the elections, but contrary to what President Putin said in response to the question whether he wanted Trump to win which he answered yes, because he(Trump) would normalize relations between the two countries.

But now, because of Trump’s unprecedented toughness toward Russia, their interference is aimed at electing Democrats, to mitigate the President’s harsh policies. And millions swallow Trump’s gibberish whole. It is incomprehensible to me.

I'm amazed there are people who don't find Trump's assertion laughable.

I did, Belle. I think it was last summer.

Got a WHOLE new appreciation for it.

When I read it in college, my mindset was, "Thank heavens I'll never have to face this kind of society in the US."

This time, my mindset was, "Oh, heavens, so much of this is coming to fruition in a few short months. How much further will it go?"

And now I'm just geared up to stop it everywhere I can.

Re: Musings

I'm reading this smashing book that Amazon calls "Nabokov meets Donna Tartt." The viewpoint character is a 17-year-old playful brain who compares everything in her life to something she's read in a book, and cites the author, title, and date of publication. It has a lively plot that she connects all these things to. I'm loving the heck out of it. It's a wonderful antidote to you-know-what. And as always happens when I read a felicitous book, I want to send a copy to somebody. But I could think of only one person who would like it as much as I do and take time from thinking about you-know-what to read it. Between chapters, I'm sitting around feeling sorry for myself because I'm the only playful person left on earth, or the next-to-the-last one anyway. Of course the person who wrote this book is a playful person. I wonder if she's still living, and if she's really this playful in person. Did you all know that Danny Kaye in his private life was MOROSE? Danny Kaye!
