MSNBC is now reporting that each of the boys was carried directly UNDER a diver in the swimming sections.

And they're reporting that the reason for the ten-hour delay is that they completely depleted their oxygen tanks.

Thailand cave operation called off for day with 8 now rescued

Some of the survivors asked for stir-fried rice after being taken to a hospital. "The kids were all totally calm," a diver involved in the operation said.

CHIANG RAI, Thailand — Four members of the youth soccer team trapped for more than two weeks in a flooded cave in Thailand were freed Monday, bringing the total number of boys rescued to eight.

Six hours after operations restarted on Monday morning, rescue workers carried the first stretcher from the mouth of the cave to a waiting ambulance, which then sped away with its lights flashing.

A Thai military official later confirmed that a boy had emerged around 5 p.m. local time (6 a.m. ET).

Three more boys were carried out in the hours that followed, according to a post on the Thai navy SEALs Facebook page. That left four boys and the team's coach trapped inside as the operation was called off for the day.

On Sunday, expert divers brought out the first four of the 13 who were stranded in the huge and waterlogged Tham Luang complex. The same divers were deployed Monday because they were familiar the cave, authorities said.

The four boys rescued Sunday were receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Chiang Rai, around 35 miles away. Its eighth floor has been reserved for the soccer team, their coach and their families — who have maintained a vigil by the cave's entrance while the boys have been underground.

Officials said the boys freed Sunday were hungry but in good health, and had asked for holy basil stir-fried rice, a popular Thai dish.

Such good news! I have no doubt it will take some time for them to recover -- and psychological symptoms may emerge for years to come. But I truly thought they had died in that cave.... Bless all of those recovery specialists! They must be absolutely exhausted.

( News) - Theresa May rocked by Brexit resignations of Boris Johnson, David Davis

Britain's foreign secretary and two other ministers quit Monday amid a deepening crisis over Brexit that threatens to topple Prime Minister Theresa May.

The resignation of the foreign minister, Boris Johnson, came after Brexit Secretary David Davis and junior Brexit minister Steve Baker stepped down overnight, blowing apart May's claim to have finally united her squabbling government on the issue.

Johnson, a loud pro-Brexit voice within May's divided government, is unhappy with her plan to keep the U.K. and the E.U. in a free-trade zone for goods and to commit Britain to maintaining the same rules as the bloc for goods and agricultural products.

In his resignation letter shared on Twitter, Johnson complained to May that she was leading Britain into a "semi-Brexit" in which the nation has no control over large parts of its economy "still locked in the E.U. system."

The Brexit "dream is dying, suffocated by needless self-doubt," Johnson said, adding that "since I cannot in all conscience champion these proposals, I have sadly concluded that I must go."

Johnson's departure could embolden Brexit-supporting lawmakers in May's Conservative Party to challenge her leadership unless she backs down on the Brexit strategy she announced Friday after 12 hours of talks.

Acknowledging the extent of the crisis, her spokesman said Monday that she would fight any attempt to oust her as leader.

The turmoil comes just days before President Donald Trump is due to meet May on his first official visit to Britain.

Good grief.... Maybe if the May government falls apart, Brexit could die a noisy death. Meanwhile, if Trump shows up and no one wants to meet with him.... Maybe he could tour TrumpBaby?

India Rules Sex With a Child Bride Is Always Rape in a Massive Win for Girls’ Rights
It’s a landmark change to India’s marital rape laws.

India’s top court has ruled that sex with a child is always rape, quashing a clause that allowed men to have sex with underage girls if they were married to them.

The Supreme Court’s landmark decision on Wednesday closed a legal loophole that has historically allowed perpetrators of rape to escape punishment.

While the age of consent in India is 18, there was a clause in India’s rape laws that lowered the age of consent to 15 if the girl was married.

But the court has now ruled that the clause is “discriminatory, capricious, and arbitrary”, and “violates the bodily integrity of the girl child”.

“This is a landmark judgement that corrects a historical wrong against girls,” Vikram Srivastava, the founder of campaign group Independent Thought, told the BBC . “How could marriage be used as a criteria to discriminate against girls?”

Girls under 18 will now be able to report their husbands for rape, as long as they lodge a complaint within a year of it happening.

“The judgement is a step forward in protecting girls from abuse and exploitation, irrespective of their marital status,” Divya Srinivasan, from women’s rights organisation Equality Now , told Global Citizen.

“This positive decision by the Supreme Court will hopefully encourage the Indian government to protect all women by removing the marital rape exemption in all cases,” she said.

Commentators say the ruling will be difficult to enforce in the country, however, due to the high rates of child marriage.

India is ranked 10th in the world for child marriage, with an estimated 47% of girls married by the time they turn 18, according to the campaigning organisation Girls Not Brides .

Girls are often seen as an economic burden, particularly in poor, rural areas, and many parents marry off their children in the hope of improving their financial security.

There is also a shame associated with pre-marital sex that can lead to girls’ parents forcing them to marry their rapists, according to news agency AFP .

Child marriage is a serious barrier for the girls involved, often leading to them dropping out of school to focus on their domestic responsibilities, or suffering health problems from giving birth at a young age.

India’s rape laws have, prior to this ruling, specifically excluded ...

Thai cave rescue: All 12 boys, soccer coach freed from cave

By Euan McKirdy, Kocha Olarn and Steve George, CNN
Updated 9:41 AM ET, Tue July 10, 2018

Tham Luang caves, Thailand (CNN) -- The last remaining member of the Wild Boars soccer team and their coach have been pulled out of a flooded cave in Thailand, bringing an end to a near three-week ordeal that prompted a huge international rescue effort.

The twelfth boy and his coach were the last of the team to be rescued Tuesday, after a complicated three-day operation to extricate the team, who became trapped on June 23 when rising flood water cut off the exit, deep inside the cave.

In the last 18 days, what began as a local search for the missing 13 turned into a complex rescue operation, involving hundreds of experts who flew in from around the world to help.

The drama has captivated people worldwide as cave experts grappled with the problem of how to free the young, malnourished boys, some of whom couldn't swim, from a flooded cavern as monsoon rains threatened to raise water levels even further.

The final boy and his coach rescued Tuesday are still being treated at an on-site medical center, while three other boys have been transported to a nearby hospital where eight of their teammates are recuperating after being rescued Sunday and Monday.

A small number of Navy SEALs, including a doctor who stayed with the team for a week after their discovery, remain in the cave system and are expected to emerge soon.

"Waiting for four more Thai Navy SEALs (to come out of the cave) who have been accompanying the kids. Please send your support to them," says a post on their official Facebook site.

Another post, confirming the rescue of all 13 stranded members of the team, said: "We are not sure if this is a miracle, a science, or what. All the thirteen Wild Boars are now out of the cave."

Nineteen divers entered the cave at 10 a.m. local time Tuesday (11 p.m. Monday ET), many on their third mission in three days, with the aim of bringing everyone inside the cave out.

Tuesday's rescue took nine hours in total, from the time the divers entered the cave to bringing out the boys and their coach.

Absolutely agree!

And the men and women who made this rescue possible are the TRUE heroes we want our kids to look up to.

I always wonder, after events like this, how many kids consider this as a career possibility for the first time. After 9/11, a whole lot of kids said they took on the mission to become first responders. I wonder how many rescue divers were born as a result of this process.

Karma at work....

(]CNN) - Lions kill suspected rhino poachers who sneaked onto South African game reserve

Suspected poachers sneaked onto a South African game reserve to hunt rhinos, but a pride of lions found them instead. A guide at the Sibuya Game Reserve spotted what appeared to be human remains on Tuesday near the group of lions, according to reserve owner Nick Fox. It was getting too dark to search the area, so police came back the next day with the reserve's anti-poaching unit and other specialists.

The remains were strewn over an area covered with thick brush and Fox said it was impossible to know how many people were killed. Investigators did find three pairs of boots and three pairs of gloves. They also found a high-powered rifle with a silencer, wire cutters and an ax that Fox said would have been used to remove a slain rhino's horns.

OMG....

Just watched live coverage of the opening breakfast between Trump and the NATO Secretary General -- and Trump picked a HORRIBLE fight!!!

He kept insisting that because Germany buys most of its gas from Russia, Russia is holding Germany captive! He carried on and on about how the US is spending all of its money on NATO to protect Germany from Russia, and then Germany buys its gas from Russia. Trump lectured him about how Germany was not using coal anymore. (Good gawd.) Trump called it "sad" and "inappropriate." Filibustered the entire conversation so badly that both Pompeo and Kelley looked EXTREMELY uncomfortable.

The Secretary General tried to explain that sometimes members of NATO disagree, but after coming through wars together, they agree on far more than they disagree about. TRYING to be a diplomat!

And then Trump interrupted him to dive RIGHT back in, insisting that Germany was a rich country that wasn't paying as much as it should, so maybe the US shouldn't pay either. Lecturing the Secretary General about being ripped off by the EU in trade, and why Germany shouldn't be buying ANYTHING from Russia if it expects the US to protect it militarily.

And then the people controlling the media quickly ushered the media out of the room and put up a NATO symbol.

SERIOUSLY???? Trump, who is sucking at the teat of Putin (and would do it on camera if he could) is lecturing GERMANY about where it gets its power???

What a completely pompous ass.... And a COMPLETE embarrassment to our country. Gawd, *I* would kick us out of NATO....

Allow me the Liberty of exercising my Italian and EU citizenships to state that Donald Trump is a functionally illiterate pompous ass who is an embarrassment to the U.S., to NATAO, and to the world. And my American citizenship pleads for his defeat in 2020. Hell at this point i would even be willing to accept a single one term Hillary presidency.

The following description and link to the video is from an e-mail correspondent who gave me permission to post it on my cyberspace boards. The video shows the SEALS getting a boy out.

You can see the Thai Navy Seals footage here [sign in to see URL]
The first stunning moment shows how the experienced divers checked their air flow and then swam into a cavity with no air above it at all (so they were fully submerged). It goes on to show how thy pulled and lifted the stretches with the boys. As for the boys being rescued, all those graphics of the boys swimming out in fins and walking out during the walkable sections are total hooey. They were encased in a shell bent around them (underneath and both sides), and they absolutely were not active participants. These shell-caskets were suspended from the rope (they didn’t hang on to the rope with their hands) and a large number of Thai navy seals carried and slid and pulled the stretcher-shells along. I don’t know how much they had to be sedated to tolerate this but I am now sure that the medical checkups at each station along the exit route was to check whether they were still sedated or sedated too much, and to jab them with a bit of wakeup juice if they were too sedated. And the total secrecy must have been to conceal this while it was happening (the Thai seals posting it now means that secrecy doesn’t matter now). They needed a long period in the hospital probably just to wake up. According to the photo essay that Portia provided the link to, the rescuers weren’t even sure the boys would still BE alive at the end of the rescue. They couldn’t really tell. Although the Spanish guy seems to be saying only four were sedated heavily, he may be taking about the four he assisted with. Maybe ALL of them were handled the same way. We will someday know.
