Re: The Rumpus Room

I'm glad for your good news with your CPAP, Cooter, and that you and your doctors get along so well. I hope you'll both find a solution for your leg pain that makes all the difference!

About a half-hour ago, I heard a loud crack of thunder. What??? Pulled up the radar, and there it was. A little tiny storm that wasn't there five minutes earlier. Weird....

So, the "You just can't make this stuff up" soap opera at Andrew's last job continues....

Andrew started at the beginning of last August as the ASSISTANT Finance Director. The Congressman HAD a Finance Director -- who left the same week Andrew started. And then Andrew did ALL of the finance work from August until mid-February. Alone. As the "assistant." Bear in mind, the man's ENTIRE campaign staff was Andrew and the Campaign Chairman! Can you imagine a campaign staff of two people?

In mid-February, he hired a new Finance Director to be over Andrew. Fairly quickly, the new Finance Director was unhappy and already had resumes out. Andrew had resumes out by the end of March. The Campaign Chairman had resumes out by the end of March. Everybody was looking.

The Finance Director found a new position first. He had typed up his letter of resignation and brought it in to work -- on the very day that the Congressman and Andrew parted ways. The Finance Director decided that wouldn't be a very good day to hand in the letter. But he had already accepted the other position. Within a week or two, he handed in the resignation letter.

So now the Congressman was about to be left with a staff of one -- his Campaign Chairman. He figured out in pretty quick order that he'd better hire another Assistant Finance Director to learn the ropes before his Finance Director left. They did. And the new guy who took Andrew's position was there less than two weeks when he put in his two weeks' notice. Oh, great! By June 1, BOTH the Finance Director AND Assistant Finance Director were gone. And the entire campaign staff was the Campaign Chairman, who is STILL trying to get out of there.

[sign in to see URL] couple of weeks ago, the Congressman hired a kid straight out of college -- who had never worked on a campaign -- to work as a staff member in his congressional office. Last Friday, he told the poor kid that he was going to be the new Finance Assistant on the campaign side. With no experience whatsoever. His first fundraiser was this weekend, and the Congressman put him under so much pressure that the poor kid was sick and passed out. Poor kid went to the doctor, who told him his blood pressure was out of control and he had to get out of that job. So the kid quit today. Walked right off the job. And the Congressman is back to one campaign staff member -- the poor Campaign Chairman who is STILL trying to find a job. I asked Andrew to keep his eye out for any opportunities for this poor guy to get on with the campaign where he's working, or anywhere else he hears of. Andrew says he's working his sources -- this is a REALLY good guy, but he's at wit's end....

I am just SO glad that Andrew is now associated with a campaign that sounds like they're already valuing his input. And he says he feels like he'll make a real difference with this campaign, especially if they can flip the district blue. I'm just most grateful of all that he's out of there.

There will be some kind of procedure(s) taking place sometime this month I would think aimed at taking care of at least some of the pain. We have a plan insofar as to what we'll deal with first, and that will be the knees. The back will be next.

They may or may not involve stem cells, but I'm thinking that will be what I settle on.

I think so, Cooter. After he came home the day he left the campaign, he slept for days. Now he is having dinners and lunches with friends he has made there, and he sounds so much more relaxed. I'm very, very grateful he's out of there.

I wonder if the Congressman will ever figure out that he's the problem.

Nah. Those folks never do.

Never....

Andrew told me something else funny, too. The guy they hired to take Andrew's place? Who was there less than two weeks when he turned in his two weeks' notice?

The Congressman repeatedly whined about the WAY the guy was writing "thank you" notes to donors. He kept telling the Campaign Chairman -- over and over -- that they needed to let the guy go.

The Campaign Chairman had to REMIND the Congressman -- over and over -- that they guy had ALREADY given his two weeks' notice! The revolving door is spinning so fast that he doesn't even know who's coming or going....

Coffee, Tanya.

It's 81 headed for around 10 degrees higher and sunny today. The U. S. Open starts today so I'll be watching a lot of golf this weekend.

I was glad that my grocery store got Romaine lettuce in that we don't have to be concerned with. I don't care that much for Iceberg.

Being ambulatory in the AM is tough. I think it's because the muscles in my legs have to loosen up. It's also painful to move but that gets better as you move [sign in to see URL]. Coffee always helps!

Good morning. We have 57F with light clouds, heading for a forecast high of 68F. Rain may move in tonight.

Cooter, the romaine lettuce our grocery store sells now has a sticker on it saying "Grown in California." I guess they want everyone to know it's safe. I'm glad to be able to eat it again.

Coffee, please, Tanya.

The Open isn't this week. The tournament this week is in Memphis, and I think the Open is next week.

A friend of mine who worked in the Athletic Department used to give me passes to the tournament in Memphis. I really enjoyed going up there and watching in person. Some of the players will interact with the gallery, and that's always fun.

I have a very needy cat. With DD here she gets spoiled past rotten. DD misses her kitty up at her mother's, but loves Shadow and Shadow loves her Aunt DD.

That dude that Andrew worked for sounds like he has a screw loose. He's even worse than one control freak I worked for. I endured his craziness for a year, and I'm told that I lasted longer than most. At least he didn't expect me to be there 24/7.

Yikes, Birdz. I'm glad you got out of there.
Yeah, Andrew was the second-longest-serving person there. The door spins pretty fast -- and now they're having trouble getting applicants because the man's reputation goes far and wide now. In Andrew's interview for this job, the interviewer didn't even ASK about his last job -- she asked about the one before. I think she knows about this guy, too. She didn't even need to ask. Andrew says he's going to wear his ability to last eight months as a badge of honor, LOL.

Hope you'll enjoy watching the golf tournament next week, Cooter. Hugs to Shadow. emoticon

Robbie, I was at a board meeting during lunch yesterday, and I always get the Caesar salad / cup of potato soup combo. The Caesar salad was back! So places must all be finding their Romaine lettuce elsewhere....

Well, I went to the board meeting and then dinner with friends yesterday.... And I guess it was all too much, too soon. Woke up in the night with my fever back and a sore throat. Lovely. We had a huge scholarship awards luncheon today, so I had to go. But I'm back home and in for the night. I'm about to head out for a nap as soon as I finish here....

Have Meals on Wheels tomorrow, hair appointment for Mom, and then Brett's Aunt is going to bring over her novel that she's been writing for the last decade. Printed out, double-spaced in 12-point font, it's more than 700 pages. She wants me to edit it. emoticon Luckily, she's already working on the sequel and is not in a MAJOR hurry.... But she wants to talk about how she wants me to treat it. So three things tomorrow, and then a completely EMPTY calendar Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Absolutely empty. I can't tell you how many YEARS it has been since I've seen that! But I'm planning LOTS of hours of sleep! emoticon

Re: The Rumpus Room

Hi, all. Today is the last day of Eva’s stay with us. It’s been fun for all. Michele and Aidan will be back from their DC field trip tonight after dinner. Their bus left Richmond, VA at 5 this morning. I’m sure they’ll all be glad to sleep in their own beds tonight. And Sandy is making pizza for dinner. Which Eva and I are both looking forward to. I’m sure Aidan and Michele will happily eat the leftovers when they get here.

We finally got in a good walk this morning. It was not as muggy as it has been and we had no rain for a change, although it looks like we might get a shower or two this afternoon. That would work for me.

I’ll be doing some yard work tomorrow, weather permitting. If not tomorrow it might have to wait until next week if the weather people prove to be right. They’re predicting a wet weekend.

I hope you’re doing reasonably well, Cooter. I’ve got some scheduled appointments coming next week and the week after. I have a couple of questions for the radiation doctor, but, all things considered, I still have no major complaints.

Back from lunch with the Gang of Four. We meet about once a month to talk about things, things that can't be mentioned here and books and this and that.

The sun has been coming and going all day, mostly going, and it's slightly breezy. We need the rain, but I wish it would rain and be done with it for a while so that we can again have some glorious summer days. My step-daughter once said it is not money or power that corrupted people. It is climate. I know what she meant. I think I would kill to keep from going back to Texas in the summers, if I had to.

I'm doing an easy supper that I always like. Smoked hamburger steak, baby red smashed taters and blackeyed peas.

DD is sick. If she's doing better tomorrow we may have fish. I doubt that she even eats tonight, but we'll see. She's been in bed all day and taking antibiotics. I picked up some other stuff for her but she's asleep now. I'll let her sleep.

Awwwww.... I hope DD will feel better soon, Cooter. But the hamburger steak and potatoes sound good. emoticon

Sounds like a fun lunch, Belle. Hope your weather improves. We've got severe storms moving in. Nothing serious; just light hail....

Your pizza sounds good, too, Brick. (Can you tell I'm hungry for supper?) So glad you got to enjoy your walk and your family is coming home....

We did have another overly warm day here, but it's cooling off now. And I managed to get quite a bit of work dealt with, which is good.

Tomorrow I need to see if the accountant is done with our business tax returns and deal with running an early payroll since we'll be gone when I usually run payroll. Oh, and there are bills to pay...
